SPR Models has just received stock of Peter Brock's A30 in 1:43rd scale.
Peter Brock, the Aussie motor racing legend, began his career at the wheel of this diminutive Austin A30 Sports Sedan. The original car - with race number 79 - was built after his release from National Service in 1967. Money was tight, so Brock and his friend Ken Mitchell planned to share the building and driving duties. A 179 cu. in. Holden six cylinder engine was sourced from a wreck, an A30 body purchased from Wagga Wagga, and parts were begged & borrowed from friends. Peter's Dad was there for moral support and served as his first mechanical consultant.

They worked weekends and put their blood sweat and tears went into this project - along with considerable guesswork at times! Peter fitted fibreglass doors, bonnet & boot to the A30, and mounted the modified body to a Triumph chassis. The tuned 179 cu. in. engine was mounted further back in the chassis, which produced a better weight distribution. Using triple 2 inch SU carbs, the engine developed approx 240 bhp. The resulting car was a crude but highly competitive race machine, particularly in Brocky's skilled hands. Always chasing better performance, Peter enlisted the skills of Ron Bentley, from Ron Bentley motors. Ron is credited with many of the improvements to the A30.

Peter continually refined the car from 1967 to 1970, and this 1:43rd ARMCO brand model shows the A30 in its last incarnation, as raced with the number 179 and with revised bodywork, where the front spoiler was moulded into the front guards.

Spectators at Australian circuits were treated to spectacular battles as Peter jousted with fellow competitors who were often driving far more sophisticated race cars. The A30 contested Sports Closed, Improved Production and Sports Sedan classes, and more often than not Peter finished first and recorded fastest lap ... despite Brock himself describing the car as "That evil natured machine."

ARMCO's 1:43rd model is beautifully detailed with high-quality resin body, numerous photo-etched parts, and extremely thin plastic sheet fitted to individual window frames (instead of one piece of thick injection-moulded plastic fitted to represent all windows). It is a very Limited Edition model, with only 150 units being produced. The model is mounted on a plastic plinth and protected by a clear acrylic display case. It is supplied with a numbered certificate of authenticity.
