Did anyone go? Did you get photos? Thanks in advance.

Yup. About 233 cars, but too busy with our group of 50 cars doing the handicaps to take many pics of the other groups, but will post a couple and will try and capture the Historic Sports Sedans tomorrow. The Algie & Addis cars went past the finish straight almost together in practice. Deafening!

Juniors and Classic Trial not running Sunday.

Some damage to the Aston Zagato which went off with a mechanical hiccup I believe. Dif locked and when towing onto the flatbed, the towing eye broke and the car rolled back, causing some panel damage and also bowled over a marshal.

A few cars out with gearbox/clutch issues including the XJS, an Escort and an Alfa.

Dad went yesterday ( Saturday ) and sent me these pics:

Carpark section. This cobra replica was built by Keith Lane of The Gearbox Factory in East Tamaki. My brother and I used to frequent his business there for a few years when we were developing out Escorts, and used to see him at Lotus / Capri / Escort / SCCNZ events regularly. I believe he sold this cobra recently…..

Because he built this Cobra Daytona replica. Haven't seen it in person, but Dad says it's immaculate, and knowing Keith, and his old green cobra, I have no doubt it is.

Anyone know what happened to Barry Algie? He is not coming up on the MyLaps timing website. One car had transponder trouble by the looks of it and also only did 2 laps.

The last two ERC races for the weekend (one Arrows and one AES) each started with 22 cars, but the speed difference between the two groups is such that combining them in to one 44 car grid would mean most of the Arrow Wheels guys starting from pit lane.

I cannot let this opportunity to thank the officials pass by without a special mention for the youngsters doing the dummy grids. A massive thumbs up to Carter (?) who is probably the best starter I have ever worked with.

Brilliant photos guys, many thanks. I LOVE the Citroen BX. Very cool. One of the great positives of your group Ray, the great variety it offers.

I finally pulled finger and went to watch my first circuit meeting for approx 12 years. Overall I enjoyed myself and really liked Hampton Downs, it's great how close you can get to the action. My favourites races were the faster AES/Arrows cars and the HMC/U3L cars. We had to leave before the only Historic Sports Sedans race, which gutted me. While the day was good, the E30s really put the handbrake on for me and four BMW races was too much. Not to stir trouble as I'm sure E30 is a great series to compete in but it's fairly indistinguishable from Suzuki Swift etc racing. There were some great displays of driving, some were really putting on a show for us. There were also a couple of drivers that should have been noted down for a talking to afterwards. Overall it was very enjoyable though. Hopefully I can dust off the Lotus for at least a Classic Trial at some stage as I figure that gives me the least opportunity to wreck it!

The Citroen BX is a Phase 1, 160 to 170 hp and many factory plastic parts. No your everyday BX. The top of the line BX.

I think the Classic Trial scenario is a great chance to keep getting the exotic type cars out on the circuit. You don't have to be a competitive racing driver, just looks like its full of enjoyment:cool:

Classic trial is a good way to get out there. That is what I did with my old Datsun 240z before selling it :( however that made me want to get back into racing with a car with a full cage (on target to be out at the ice breaker later this year)

Here is some in car from the last U3L and HMC handicap, unfortunately my clutch lost pressure which made selecting 2 gear very hard. In the last lap I forget to change down for the sweeper and went wide, still a great race

We have always seen a Classic Trial as either a great stepping stone into classic racing or an end in itself, particularly for those with nice original cars that they just want to air now and again.

With their fastest speed bar being lower than our entry level for new drivers, moving over can be quite painless and they only then need to learn use the mirrors more and also get used to overtaking or being overtaken, having already learned the track.

The Citroen went home on the back of a truck on Saturday after coming to a halt after the dipper hairpin (I wish they'd give corners proper names...) as the rotor arm came loose and eventually came off and smashed the distributor cap. Great to see Stewart back on the Sunday.

With three French cars now running, we may have to instigate a new trophy to go along with our top Italian car award. However, having worked part time for Hertz in the UK, I can't get over the depot manager's comment when the company switched from Ford Fiestas (which we really liked) to Renault 5's. "I'm not driving a b****y clockwork frog!" was his comment - and the name has stuck with me for any smallish French car!
