I remember it well. I was there.
A shame the circuit did not last, It only ran for a few years.

Great shot of Graeme Lawrence and the late Jack Inwood in the 1965 film.

Hi Folks, I am looking for evidence that my Wainwright Formula Vee raced at Paritutu in 1971/72 I have been reliable informed that The car driven by its builder Eric Wainwright held the lap record. I need evidence of its participation IE. result sheet or programme to prove to the powers that be that it is a genuine historic race car. If anyone can help it would be much appreciated, as I can not take part in any events with out a vehicle i/d or log book.
Thanks,

Morley Faulkner

This report of the 12 March 1972 Pukekohe Formula Vee race proves the car actually did get to compete on the track.

Paritutu ..

John Larry Lawton has just published some photos from the 1965 Labour Day event - old negatives he has rediscovered.

1960's the days of street races - in regional towns.
Ahuriri [ Napier ] early 1960's
Mt Maunganui 1963 - 64
Matamata 1964 - 65
Paritutu from 1965 until ? - at least 1972 from Milan's records.
Waimate 1959 - 1966
and a few more !!

The 1967 Programme Cover..

I hope you realise Roger that reproducing the programme cover so that the cigarette advertising is prominent is just a tade naughty.

Even worse in Australia where models cars with cigarette sponsorship - you have to by the " Marlboro " or other logo separately - sometimes they are in the box under the car to apply yourself - Just in case a kid buys a 1;43 scale or other scale model and takes up smoking because of the " Logo ".

Paritutu 1965 - and not an advert in sight - not even on the car.
Photos from the owner [ at the time ] archives.

Had seen this image a while ago - a Big Hill or is it a Mountain.

so how did this meeting happen, it is my understanding that car racing was banned from the streets in 1966 with the motorsport association of the day allowing the early 1967 meeting in Timaru to go ahead for a fundraiser for Levels that was almost complete?

so the 1965 meeting was organised by the Taranaki Car Club, the 1966 and 1967 were organised by the Scenic City Promotions, with sponsorship from Rothmans. Sound like they were black meetings

This is from the 1966 programme and it shows it was a sanctioned meeting. Rothmans was a major sponsor of motor racing at that time so rules might have been tweaked a bit to keep them happy.
