Hi Guys,
I've been a reader for some time now and really enjoy seeing all these wonderful old pics and hearing the stories behind them.
Although I was a bit late on the scene to personally experience 'the good old days', I did have a dream about an old car around four years old which somewhat shaped my interest in all things automotive.
Here is the second and third car I have owned, both bought for $500 a pop as a teenager in various states of brokenness. The Mk3 I sold in the late 90s after fitting a 302 and discovering how much fuel it gulped, the Mk2 I still drive every day. First car was a Mini.

This one is the car of my dreams. Well ok, not this actual vehicle. Bought off trademe as two trailer loads of parts, now in the final stages of getting it back on the road. In this pic I built it up on a new chassis and applied just enough paint to see all the little details that weren't quite right, now it is pieces again to put them right. The original owner passed away a few months after I bought the car and he still lived in the same Mt Eden house as on the rego papers from 1957. He sold it after five years and it went through the usual gamut of owners including P & R Motors Papakura in the mid 60s until the chassis rusted out in the 90s where it sat in pieces under the care of a well-intended owner until 2010.

I have a wishful hope that one day I can discover the history of the Mk2 before 1982 when it turned up in a scrap yard in Woolston Chch according to a previous owner. It had a Jag engine fitted in the 70s and was painted cherry red with gold painted widened rims and jacked up at the back with extra spring leaves. There was also some sort of spoiler on the back above the tail door. Anyone remember such a creation around Christchurch or Ashburton?
