I see Chris Watson has the McLaren M18 based Gardos F5000 for sale. I've not seen many period images of the car. Is this an earlier or later guise?

This car has been for sale on Race Cars Direct for almost a year but hasn't sold.

The advertised price was GBP 80,000 which is about NZD 142,000. Now they want NZD 180,000 for it. A bit brave.

There are pics of the car in the F5000 Thunder book for comparison...

At least one Barry Singleton's story and there's a story from Jaime Gard as well.

I really don't think it looked like the pics shown, but I'd need to have a look at the pics to decide whether or not it's just the colour or something that's different. It was a very late car in the F5000 era, so it shouldn't have been changed much at all.

Thanks you guys, great info! Looks like its been restored to its later guise. Here is the car (thanks Terry for the link) in 1980.

I see this car has popped up again today on Race Cars Direct.

They still want GBP 80,000 for it. As I said in post #2 it's no wonder it didn't sell in NZ at NZD 180,000

I see that this car still hasn't sold at GBP 80,000, so they have changed the price.

Now they want GBP 90,000 for it......

I see that the Gardos F5000 is still on the market at GBP90K.

That must be two years since it went on the market

It would be a shame to see it broken into its component parts because they can't sell it...
