I think it is really neat that in 1965 Nigel's father was our family doctor in Morrinsville and here we are communicating 51 years later thanks to TRS.
No one else may give a hoot but I am thrilled.
All I have to do now is find out where these cars are now !

I certainly remember the Dan Blocker cover...

I had been working three years in 1965, my pay was probably about £AU14 per week. I do remember that mid-1967 my pay went to $AU60 per week, while I started out at £8.8.6 per week right at the end of 1961. Petrol was about 4/8d a gallon, IIRC. Ten bob would get you a long way in a Morris Minor those days.

And I used to pore over the Road & Track classified drooling over the thought of winning the lottery and buying a 300SL Gullwing.

In the May 1965 "Sports Car Graphic" magazine I found an interesting coverage of the 1965 Tasman Series with art work by Australian illustrator, Connell Lee.
I hope he does not mind me sharing this but I had wanted to be an auto artist when I first left school but never pursued that field and I admire this type of art as he clearly captures the person in these examples.

But you have to admit, Ken, you wouldn't buy that Corvette today...

The girl would be all wrinkled!

Nice drawings, I'd forgotten about them. My SCGs were lost a long time ago.

Before Can Am the sports car racing series was known as the SCCA (Sports Car Club of America ).
In late 1964 the racing was getting competitive with the Chaparral starting to win races and Bruce McLaren was showing his skills in the first of his sports cars.
At one of the last races at Monterey (Laguna Seca )the Chaparral driven by Roger Penske (filling in for an injured Jim Hall) won the races and for most of the day, run in two heats, people saw only the Chaparral from the rear.
(Thanks to Car & Driver magazine. Jan 1965. for the photos )

This is a 1981 Camel GT cigarette ad.
(Judging by the soil colour and the hill, probably taken at the Road Atlanta circuit.
Note the stance which just allows the GT to be seen !)
