Lovely Ford V8 pick up, well captured Nigel.

Thanks John. Was that you screaming around the track yesterday? Your falcon sounds brilliant at high revs. We don't always get to hear it clearly when there are multiple cars on the track, but yesterday was memorable.

Nigel...no I had Border Collie commitments and couldnt make it.
That would have been Bruce taking Jen Mossman for a run.
Screaming did you say, was that the car or her perhaps.
And wow, rapt that Blue was so memorable

Great stuff Nigel. I nearly went, but hope to go to Otaua this weekend. Some rare cars at Elsmore.

I wonder if the Singer Bantam - #27/4 - is the one I bought off Kevin Andrew as a basket case, but sold on as a basket case?

Haven't seen a Ginetta G15 for a while either. Wasn't that plate on a blue G15, owned by one of the leading lights of the Sports Car Club NZ?

Roger- #186- NZCars- A cottage Industry page 10. I know this car as I trimmed it. Its a lovely proportioned car. 4 friends all built one each off a pattern they made in the 60s. Great story , owner sold it to finance house and family, wife bought it for him as a surprise present -to restore-50 years later.

It had an information board beside it - as seen here.

Have to agree about the MG Nigel. A disgrace to the badge. It is as bad as all those companies who shift all their production off shore and still claim it is a local company.

They have set up on Wairau Rd with the MG Logo and 'Since 1924'. Not even designed in Britain, so it has nothing whatever to do with MG as we know it. They just bought a name.

Nigel - really enjoying your Monochrome [ that is a long word B and W ] Photos, Cheers

Thanks Roger. I'm going back to my roots and shooting a lot more B&W film these days. The negatives, if properly stored, should last for hundreds of years, so my kids have been given strict instructions to treat them as an important family heirloom. Just like Ray's dads photos are of great interest today, I'm hoping mine will be in the future, perhaps after cars don't actually exist anymore.

Ken, if your car lived here in NZ it would be absolutely treasured. My first car was a 1963 Morris Mini 850, originally brown but after my brother rolled it we had it painted Goodwood Green.

Nigel, thanks for these the last few posts - the Healey's the Mini's and others - saw some of the Mini's at Ngatea on Friday heading for the Bay of Plenty and some around Tauranga - Yesterday. That Race car was on a trailer - saw it both days. Ngatea and Fraser Cove.
I will [ as you might expect ] " borrow " the A-H photos .. - see a couple of cars I know and a couple of people in the background too !!

Cheers..

Photos now borrowed from 2019 Brit Euro - see the Valiant Healey alongside a 3000 and Ross Cammick car HL3000 too Thanks

Yes I have quite a collection now Ray.

Storage is becoming a concern, especially with the digital files, as we have to keep 2 copies of everything just in case the hard drive has a meltdown. So many tetrabytes of image files that I've run out of fingers to count them!!

I like to take a lot of B&W film photos, as I know that they have a better chance of surviving over time. My kids will get strict instructions on how to look after them when I kick off, so hopefully they will still be around in the future when actual cars have disappeared.

Anyway, most importantly it's a fun hobby and gets me out and about.

No doubt I'll see you up at HD at some stage this summer, so until then keep that shutter finger exercised.

Nigel, the B&W Monochrome photos are brilliant - do you do your own developing - not many places to process film these days.
My lack of own photos recently is because ;
#1, haven't been to any shows -events since " Supercars " ..
#2, left my camera in Auckland and haven't managed to retrieve it yet.

My father used to develop his own photos in the 1950's - in a cupboard in our Hall - very cramped but it worked..
Had got rid of his trays etc by the time I got a camera in my early teens ..

Hoping to be at HD December 8th - TACCOC and maybe Caffeine & Classics Nov 24th - early, as my wife has a dance competition.

My Dad used to develop his own at home, but pre-war, he was a newspaper photographer. After demob, he got a job with a major UK Schools/Industrial/Aerial photographers from 1946 (until he retired), and was soon Production Manager, in charge of the processing side, so he used bulk film stock and had the negs developed at work. When I say stock film, it was bulk, so they merely pulled off a length and put it into a cassette, so you had no idea how many pics you were going to get! No numbers on the negs either but I acquired all his negs when he died.

I have catalogued many of his, frame by frame, except those he took at work for test shots of staff. A major mission, but then I had all my own negatives and slides to catalogue and have digitised a fair few, as posted on here, but plenty still to do - when I get around to it.

Yes, a fun hobby, but can be very time consuming, but I really now need to get stuck into the car(s).

You have a great 'eye' Nigel.

nigel watts

Thanks Roger & Ray,

Yes I still do my own developing.

I have a full darkroom set up in my basement, although I don't do any wet printing anymore.

I still have several film cameras, 35mm & Medium Format, that I like to exercise every so often.

Fortunately for me film has not died, and in fact there is some indication that it is slowly gaining in popularity again which is reassuring.

The biggest problem with old cameras is being able to get suitable batteries for them as they all used mercury ones back in the day.

Thanks Ray,

Yes I think 2 weekends in a row is a bit too much for many [me included!]

I thought that entries for the Historic GP were down a bit on previous years. Shame really, but that's the way it goes.

Met Ken H for a chat at the end of the day.

Hi Nigel, Great photos. The entries for the Taupo HGP was up 20% overall. The spectator crowd was up as well.

It is going from strength and next year theme is “Ford”

There were some great guests there also...Spencer Black was there on the Saturday, along with Jim Palmer and Howden Ganley. Sunday Jim Carlyle was there, so was Paul Fahey and I gave Alan Boyle 4 Demo laps in the Monaro

Yes they certainly are beautiful, and I hadn't seen many of them before so it was a pleasant surprise.

Thanks Roger.

I do love using black & white film and doing my own developing in my basement darkroom.

It's a bit more challenging than digital because you never really know what you've got untill you develop the film.

More coming

Cheers
