Well this is it folks, the 7th and final part of the Mike Feisst Collection. I know Mike has enjoyed sharing these photos with everyone, and I've enjoyed posting them here.

This final batch has a bit of everything, from Touring Cars at Sandown, Sports Cars, Tasman Single Seaters, Formula 5000, Formula Atlantic, Saloons, Sports Sedans, and Rallying.

A bit more rallycross, plus Niel Allens Elfin Traco, and McLaren M10B, plus blast-off for a saloon car race at Pukekohe during the 1968 season. Paul Fahey, Rod Coppins, and Frank Bryan Mustangs all there, plus the Barry Phillips and John Ward Lotus Cortinas? Any help here?

Post #6 first photo is Pierre Dieudonne"s Uhrlich RP3. Dr Joseph Uhrlich built a series of Formula 3 cars and ran, mostly unsuccessfully, a number of drivers in European F3 including Brett Riley at Monaco in 1978 (DNQ but there were 60 entries). Pressumably this was a converted F3 car (chassis #? Mr McKinney?). The front wheels look like March ones of the era, presumably Uhrlich used March uprights and other components. Earlier Uhrlich cars were Brabham BT21 and BT23 based.

My error, correct spelling is Ehrlich.

Thats Ehrlich, there is a front on view in Post #6 of The Mike Feisst Collection Part 3. Dieudonne was a motor racing journalist, and definitely was the one who went on to have great success in touring cars

A couple of Reg Cooks ShellSport Datsuns which were so successful in that series, plus Robert Stewart in one of the PDL Mini's in the first year of the PDL Racing Team. And, future F1 driver Roberto Moreno, in a Ralt RT4 (I think?).

This was how Mike had spelt it too. I'll leave the spelling up to you guys. Would love to know more about these cars.

I’ll take a shot at the rally pix. From the top are more from Heatway `73 and the special stage at the HopuHopu army camp on the last day of the rally, as in a previous gallery. You can clearly see the Hamilton Car Club banner. This stage was run as a race, rallycross style. I think the same happened on at least one race circuit (Pukekohe?) and at a trotting track in the Sth Island. The blue/white Escorts look like the Woolmark cars of Hannu Mikkola and Mike Marshall which finished 1st and 2nd. The Mini Clubman could be Andrew Cowan, the Porsche would be the 911T of Tim Bailey which finished 5th behind Mikkola. Marshall, Shekhar Mehta (Datsun 180B) and Colin Bond (the XU1 in one of the previous galleries). I would be reasonably certain the green Escort would be none other than Jim Richards in the Dulux car.
From more modern times the Duckhams RX3 is Rod Millen at the Mystery Creek special stage Motogard `78. In a previous gallery the Escort with its nose planted in the drain was Mike Marshall, also at Mystery Creek. A little shortcut that ended his rally on day 1.
The Masport Escort below that is the famous Vatanen car from`77. This is day one at a regroup (somewhere in Hamilton would be my guess, Glenview Hotel?) so the car is still not too battered. Next to it is the Toyota Trueno of Alan Brough. The big line of cars has the nose of the Fiat 131 of eventual winner Fulvio Bacchelli. 2 cars along the RX3 of Rod Millen with the name of co-driver Mike Franchi able to be seen. About 7 along is the 1600 pushrod MkII Escort of Nelson’s Dave Parkes, one of my favourite drivers of that era,
The Celica is the `82 winning car of Bjorn Waldegard. It’s the same event as the Quattros, Rohrl’s Opel Ascona, JDs Escort, Pond’s Nissan etc in Mike’s pix from a previous gallery. Taken on day 1 of `82 at a regroup in central Hamilton after the cars had completed Old Mountain Rd and before they went to Mystery Creek (does anyone remember the crowd there that day?) The location is Alexandra St roughly where Farmers is today.

By the way, re Ulf Norinder's delectable gold-and-blue Lola T190 in post #1 .... a few school buddies and I were hanging round Bay Park that summer ('69 I think), painting the wire-rope fences of the stock car circuit for a few meagre bucks, and waiting to see who might rock up for a bit of pre-Xmas international testing, when Norinder rolled up with that horny weapon on a trailer behind an HR Holden. We barred up, but after a leisurely lap in the towcar he pronounced the circuit unacceptable for practice as there was crap all over the corners.
That'll be the day !!
My buddies and I sprung into action, commandeered a set of brooms from the unflappable Bay Park caretaker, Colin Wightman, and set to, sweeping the four corners free of debris in record time, and were rewarded by seeing the mighty Lola-Chev fire into life and cut some spectacular laps, pretty stoked !

The car Pierre Dieudonné raced in the 1978 series was the RP3, and Ian Flux came back with the RP5 a couple of years later

Incidentally, Brett Riley wasn't the only NZer to race an Ehrlich in F3: Richard Hawkins had raced one in 1976 (and even won a race). In addition Dave Saunders entered a couple of 1978 British Atlantic races with the RP3, but I don't think he ever made the starting-grid

On one of the threads, someone was asking for a photo of the Elfin sports car car in white with the red stripes. There is a rear view in the photos above, but I can't locate the thread at the moment.

"We were!" (memory like a sewer pipe!) So the first job in motor racing was fence painting not corner sweeping.
That certainly was a magnificent looking Lola.

He was known as a party specialist, rather than a racer but unfortunately lost all respect when he tried to not take no for an answer from the host's wife at a party in Sydney. Later committed suicide in a Roll-Royce in Monaco rather than dying of cancer. In all, a tortured soul, but who made an impact of sorts when he turned out.

And that was me looking for the early Elfin pic, so very happy Mr Feisst noticed it in the garage...

Wow, great work there Colin! So when they ran a couple of stages like a rallycross, was there any body contact between the cars?

OK, time for more photos. Kicking off here with a pair of Rod Collingwoods race cars, including his 1972 championship winning Mini Cooper (now owned by Roaring Season member AMCO72), plus his FVA Escort, which is the ex-Fahey car pictured elsewhere on this thread. Then we have a couple of Rod Coppins' cars, in his Mustang, which is the ex-Pete Geoghegan car which won the single race ATCC at Bathurst in 1966, plus Rods Camaro. Also appearing here is Rodger Anderson and his BMW 2002. What ever happened to this car?

Here is another shot of the Anderson BMW, plus Ron Grable's wedge-nose McLaren M10A. Where is the radiator on this car? Is that it down beneath the rear wing? Finally, a couple of Roy Harrington cars, in his mighty Imp, and Escort Twin-Cam. Where are these cars today?

The Pukekohe Sports Sedan race from the early '80s shows Roaring Season member Tony Rutherford in his RX2 ahead of John Osborne in the ex-Halliday/Lupp Capri, and (I think), Lawrence Bruce in the old Dawson Camaro. The Mini 7 is that of Sel Melville. The Stanton Corvette in what I consider its most handsome guise. The saloon cars races at Pukekohe show a 4.2 litre race, then an outright race.

Getting towards the end here folks. Another rally car, a Toyota Celica, perhaps a works car? Can you help here Colin? The Zap Starlet is of course the Trevor Crowe car which conquered sports sedan racing in the early '80s. The fantastic looking Yamaha is that of Trevor Discombe.

And this is the last of the photos from the huge Mike Feisst collection (unless Mike happens to find a few more under his mattress).

The Plymouth coupe and Model T appear to be at the same car show as the hot rods etc from an earlier thread. This post also shows the Warwick Brown Lola T300. And finishing off the thread, and indeed, the collection, is the car I used for the title image, the gorgeous gold metalflake Lola T190 of Ulf Norinder.

Thanks again to Mike for sharing these, and to everyone who has helped provide captions and their own personal stories.

David, presumably it was the same Ehrlrich RP3 for Atlantic / Pacific here as well as in European F3 as converting the car back and forth from F3 to Atlantic specs would have been a quick and easy task. In the photo, the gearbox looks like a Hewland FT200 with cast single pole wing mount while it would have had a Mk 9 for F3 with solid discs and single pot calipers in the rear.

It looks like Ehrlich ran a Toyota Novamotor engine in F3 so the engine frames were probably different but apart from the wider wheels for Atlantic and larger rear wing, together with Atlantic spec BDA, that would be about it.

Steve, have you considered a thread for Formula Atlantic/ Pacific?

Yep, I think this is a great idea Howard. I've just sent you a pm, I'd also like you to create a thread on your own racing career, and your efforts to make it on the international stage. The stories of young Kiwis and Aussies on shoestring budgets trying to make careers as international race drivers is a subject that has always fascinated me. What do you reckon?

Ah some great memories, thanks Mike and Steve. In the Harrington Escort shot is that Dave Silcock's Mk2 Jaguar left of shot? Lovely bellowing straight six and he did well for a six in a biggish car.

Was Roger Anderson the first to seriously race any BMW in NZ? I would guess he was and it was a welcome addition to the usual collection of British and Japanese 2 litre cars.

Regards the Celicas rally car in "works" colours I very much doubt it was more than an NZ dealer car for a local driver, someone will pick it - GD? It looks earlier than the Waldegaard and Pond Celicas that raced here and 21 on the road.

I saw the rally end for the Patrick Gratian Celica. Early on leg two I was spectating at the end of the first or second stage of the day at the frosty Te Rangiita, abit north of Turangi. The quattros and other big stars had been through and right at the flying finish the Celica either lunched the diff or dropped the propshaft.
The Forte Escort #14 is the same year (82) but it's Tony Teesdale.
The pic of Discombe's TZ reminds me. An earlier gallery had pix of Graeme Lawrence's March 76 or 77B. They are taken at one of the Hamilton GP bike races which ran 73-77 or 78. Some demo laps in the March were pretty impressive and Graeme was quite a bit quicker than the bikes.

The Trevor Discombe bike is a Yamaha TZ750, one of the first of the big, powerful, Japanese two-strokes. Discombe is very fast and I say 'is' because he still races a TZ350. He'd have to be 60 and still competing on a grand prix motorcycle .... the man is all class.

The Anderson BMW 2002 Alpina is under restoration in Northland and the owner hopes, I understand, to have the car running or at worst on display at the 2012 Hampton Downs Festival which celebrates BMW.

The Trevor Discombe bike is a Yamaha TZ750, one of the first of the big, powerful, Japanese two-strokes. Discombe is very fast and I say 'is' because he still races a TZ350. He'd have to be 60 and still competing on a grand prix motorcycle .... the man is all class.

He rode the TZ350 at a bike meeting last year at Hampton Downs and looked pretty handy still. A great rider in his day he plied his trade at international events in SE Asia. The Shell sponsored bike was a 1974 TZ750D and he raced it over quite a few seasons and it was his last serious race bike as I recall. I remember Dr Freeth looping his McIntosh Suzuki 4-stroke off the front row of the grid at Baypark and taking out a none-too-impressed Trevor who was having one of his less frequent rides.

Paul Swann (PJ) had the car after Steve Millen, PJ was a cousin of the Schollum Brothers who owned Steves Pacific cars. It then went to a fellow from Mairangi Bay. It was PJs favorite car and he was looking forward to seeing it finished, but unfortunatly pass away about 3 months ago.
Howard can you tell me were it is as I would love to catch up and have alook at it.
I will try and down load a picture of it just after PJ sold it.

I'd say by now Trevor would be knocking 70, after all Ginger Molloy is around 73, and yes, he's still quick, and still smooth as ever.
The TZ750 in the pic is in a Dutch-built Nico Bakker chassis which would date it around the '75/'76 season. While beautifully made, and nickel-plated, the chassis was more suited to the longer, more flowing European circuits of the day, rather than NZ's mostly short, tight, point-and-squirt tracks. After a big crash, the chassis was replaced and the bike rebuilt as a TZ750D. The Bakker chassis later reappeared in Levi's colours, ridden by Stu Avant.
I first saw Discombe racing in 1965 on a 7R AJS, and guess what...he was quick and smooth then, too...

Rod, I have sent you a PM.

After 30 years trying not to scratch the itch I gave up and have built a replica BMW 2002 Alpina Group 2. I managed to locate some genuine Group 2 "Pig's Cheek" front guards and rear wheel arch extentions on Ebay and took a mould off them. I am lending the moulds to the new owner as they are the same as the Anderson car had in its first year here and is how the current owner wants to present the car, in Cambridge livery. Over the years as wider and wilder wheels were fitted to the car the guards were chopped and eventually lost.

In Rod's picture, post #41 the Group 2 front guards are still intact but the rears are gone.

That's the plan. As the car is to Schedule K there are a number of options although I will run in the BMW series this year. As that is a bit of a hot rod series I am interested in more period correct options as well. HRC seem keen to promote a Sched K only series if they can get enough cars.

Thats nice Howard, looks like it'll be lots of fun! Schedule K is a good idea, I hope enough cars can be brought up to K specs. This is what is used in Europe and those who race to these specs speak highly of them.

Donn Anderson has written an excellent article on the Rodger Anderson BMW as above in the latest NZ Classic Car mag. Interesting that the car was built in Germany, and shipped to NZ, but it raced as right hand drive. Looking at it closer, the windscreen wipers are set up for a lhd car. So I assume it must have been converted to rhd. Why was this? The article said the car was fitted with the standard 14.6:1 steering box, because the better 12.8:1 box would only fit the lhd cars. So in some ways the team were limiting themselves slightly by running rhd.

The wiper set up is the same RHD and LHD, or at least my RHD car is the same as the Anderson car. The quick ratio steering box is available only in LHD and one sold recently on ebay for gizzillions.

When Rodger Anderson bought that car the '02 was at the beginning of what became a homologation war between Ford and BMW, first with the Escort v '02 and then Capri v CSL. Amonst the later items homologated were rack and pinion steering with much shorter steering arms. I have done this on my car and the improvement is quite noticeable.

Before the European Touring Car Group 2 regs changed in 1973 to allow 4 valve engines (so the BDA Escort didn't dominate) BMW were getting 225 HP out of their 2 valve injected 2 litre engine which would probably have been around 40-50 HP more than the Anderson car.

OR.........put your machine to sleep. Go away and have a cup-a-tea, come back and re-start the machine and....'VOILA'...the images are there. Often happens to me. Don't know about tags and reloading cos I'm a learner!!!!!!!!!!
