I have just received a suprise package containing a couple of disks of copies of photos that according to the unsigned note that came with them were in an album rescued from a rubbish transfer station more than 10 years ago. There are a considerable number of excellent photos, some of which I will endevour to place on the Roaring Season for you all to enjoy and identify.

I am very gratefull that someone has gone to all the trouble to rescue so much of the history of NZ Motorsport.

What a magnificent save, there is some real history in those photos. The Escort (?) and Cortina (John Ward) a couple of beauties. Mr Moss having a chat to looks like Mr McLaren, and the fitment of the helmet in the last photo.

I think in the Moss photo the other driver is John Surtees. Looks like the dummy grid at Levin.

Great stuff, too many photos has been lost over the years.

I think that the Mt Cook sponsored Escort was driven by Gary Sprague. It is also featured in Garry Simkins photos.

Another fantastic find and treasure trove.

Agree with the others. A real treasure trove. Your mate definitely deserves a beer!

Can someone enlighten me on the #94 car in photo 16?

Cheers

In post #2 the last single seater is the Trevor Larsen built Valour FJ - looks like Colin Ngan driving -perhaps Levin around 1965?

I remember its earliest appearances with a longer and prettier nose, but then Jim Boyd had several attempts at shortening it during 1964, including taking it under water at Pukekohe!

# 16 going by the number should be LRA Brownlie but do not know the people attached.

Must say the last pic looks like Trevor Taylor in a Lotus 25, but I can't for the life of me recall him racing in NZ : maybe the photog had a sojourn to Blighty ?

Correct, TT never raced in NZ, nor did an original 25 with Climax 1.5 engine.

Try Allan McCully and perhaps John Reid leaning on rear tyre

I don't know the people in the photo, but the #20 red and white Brabham BT6 is the Brownlie car circa 1967.

I don't think it was ever called Fireball at the time it appeared in that colour scheme. I was at Bob McMurdo's paint shop one night when Leo Sexton the signwriter applied all the stripes and it was certainly refered to as the Red Ball Special, with a similar scheme that an Indy car had.
Looking at the photo in post #29 it does not look like John Reid driving, more like Keith McLelland who raced the car at the Teretonga Championship Meetings on 15/10/67 and also on 10/12/67 [info from Teretonga 25]

Ivy Stephenson raced a 23, but I don't know if this is it - I thought it was white.
