Well how things can change, yesterday I delivered the 70 PDL(Replica) Mustang to Tony Mexted in Auckland, Tony has purchased the Mustang and will continue to race it under the HMC banner, his son Mitch races a Capri in HMC so looks like a father/son challenge coming up :)

Tony raced a Anglia back in the 60's against Paul Fahey, Kerry Grant and alike but got out early due to family and business, been a young fella back then he was just an independent self funded racer, in recent times he raced a BMW Mini at club events to keep his hand behind the wheel. Tony, we look forward to having you with us in HMC for the enjoyment of historic saloon car racing.

Tony is also hoping to run the Mini with ERC, but his email today states it has a 2720cc supercharged engine... Hopefully that is just a typo!

I know there are at least a couple of tribute Nascar stock cars being built to race in HMC. Here is a cool tribute of the #22 1963 Galaxie raced in Nascar by the late great Edward "Fireball" Roberts.

Hi Ray,
That would be a supercharged 1598cc. The log book has it at 2720cc but is wrong.

That said the old bugger will need a supercharged 2720cc to haul him around.

Cheers Karl.

Sorry if I caused any confusion. This car is in the US. Its not an HMC car. Just thought I'd add it for inspiration.

It would be fantastic to see one of these out there on the track Steve.

We need more cars from this era like the Chev Nova, Falcon Sprint etc.....bit big to get past.....!!

That remark may come back to bite you Karl! Tony has paid up and is now part of the ERC series too. Now 108 paid up drivers...

There is a '63 Galaxie being built for HMC, though I don't know if it'll be Nascar inspired. 1963 Galaxies were also prominent in the British Saloon Car Championship, and dominated the series through 1963 and '64. These were Holman-Moody built lightweight cars, and driven by various superstar drivers including Jim Clark, Denny Hulme, Dan Gurney, Roy Salvadori, among others.

I'd love to see Falcon Sprints, Chevy Novas etc running too. The Falcons raced in period with a vast array of lightweight panels, and completely dominated the BSCC in the late 1960s during the Group 5 era. They've also been extremely competitive in historic racing for many years in the UK/Europe, and in Australia.

Thanks to James Watson(2K Cup) a few HMC and HSC cars along with Big Bad George in the Siddy had a private practice twilight session at Hampton Downs lastnight, I went out with Tony Mexted for his first drive in the PDL(Replica)Mustang and then cut him loose by himself, he got in a good number of laps and improved his skill each session, Dave Sturrock in the beautiful Gulf Camaro had a great run and also along was Mike Coory Datsun 240K, Rayden Smith Wilment Escort, Mitch Mexted Capri Perana. A great quick 2 hours practice except poor ol George tried to burn his gonads and once again no angry people. As a side note the progress at Hampton Downs itself is just friggen amazing and when we left at around 7.30 the workers were still there doing it. See you all next month at the Festival and everyone have a Merry X-Mas and Fantastic New Year.

Ian(JacJac)Easton practiced for the first time in his newly finished 67 Mustang Coupe at Manfield yesterday, not quite HMC legal but I guess he'll sort that out. Awesome attention to detail and cool looking car, must be enough Mustang race cars in NZ to have their own race(that's a thought?)

Hows this for a line up, Hulme Festival 2013. Infact it was too many, this year we've capped it at 30 total. PS: gotta luv the foggy conditions :)

ERC
01-02-2016, 04:11 AM
Dale, we have a full grid of 46 for weekend 2... I think, 40 for weekend 1.

Why cap it at 30? If you are running scratch races anyway, you effectively reduce the promoter's potential income by $5120 per weekend and deny spectators better value for their money - particularly if there is any attrition between now and the end of weekend 2.

I've just got done designing this new poster of Dennis Marwood, which HMC will have available at their marquee at the 2016 NZFMR. Dennis will be on hand at various times during the event to sign his poster and shoot the bull with race fans.

Thanks to Terry Marshall for the photo.

Ex-Hampton Downs owner and Festival event organiser Tony Roberts will be racing this 67 Trans Am Mustang Coupe in the Historic Muscle and Saloon car grid at the Festival the weekends of the 15-17 and 22-24 January(next weekend). This Mustang model represent one of the true icons of New Zealand Saloon Car racing from the late 60’s early 70’s when American saloons rule supreme. This vehicle is a brand new built historic race car and it will only be its second time out racing, it is a road lead car fitted with an all iron(HMC Legal) 331 SB Ford Windsor engine running on pump gas, approx 450HP backed by a Jerico 4 speed gearbox, Ford 9” full Floater diff, Wilwood disc brakes, 15 inch wheels with period Hoosier tyres. This Mustang has immaculate attention to detail and truly represents what proper historic racing is about in New Zealand, come along and view this lovely race car along with all the other competitors competing over the Festivals 2 weekends.

And when the Monaro comes out it will be 4 likely lads.
Monaro ran against Red, Jim and the Segedin Mustang at Port Hills Drags 1970 when Dave Bull owned it.
RUSS CUNNINGHAM-
I was talking with my good friend, Dave Bull, a couple of days back and during the course of conversation Dave mentioned running against Grady in the Monaro at the Port Road sprint meeting. Dave was driving the ex.Red Dawson Mustang and John is hopefull that someone who was there might have photographs or recall details of the Monaro. Incidentally, Dave and Grady knew each other well as both were Karori boys.

The Javelins stopped racing but he'll be back one day? I guess :) the Cuda had entered but he crashed at Puke and couldn't be repaired in time, Roger Williams wife was in hospital so he couldn't make it but is back this weekend and good ol Deano just needed a break. The good thing though is we have a new bunch of racers turning up with a fresh attitude and other cars been finished so like most motorsport events its a continuous revolving door.

This lovely E-mail just came thu from Rodger and Barbara Cunninghame, who came up from Invercargill.

Hi Dale
Just a quick note to thank you very much for organising such a fantastic weekend. Barbara and I had a great time and felt a real sense of belonging to a great group of enthusiasts. The racing was some of the most enjoyable I have participated in(a win helps) and your prizegiving, and BBQ were the icing on the cake.
Please pass on my thanks to your fellow directors, although without you steering it the way you do I don't think this exciting group of competitors would exist . Good luck next weekend, I shall be watching my laps with interest.

Regards Rodger Cunninghame

Ken Sturrock(Daves brother) has also just recently purchased this beautiful 67 A-Sedan Camaro out of Oregon, USA. Some compliance is needed but not much, its turn key ready to race otherwise and features a 500HP 302 Chevy, Muncie trans, period 15inch wheels, etc another great addition to HMC.

The new owner wishes to remain anonymous until he gets his baby but this beautiful 69 Mustang was recently purchased out of Brisbane, Australia minus engine and will join the HMC grid next season, it will live in the lower north Island, once again minor compliance issues and a new HMC spec engine will see it line up on the grid.

Grant, transporter idea sounds great but this we leave up to each individual or unless someone can organise this as a group themselves, i hope you plan to be apart of the SI tour as theres lots of interest. Please remember that our Roaring Season founder Steve Holmes along with HSC Director Bruce Dyer are the ONLY go to guys for questions and answers for organising this actual event at both tracks, myself and Tony Roberts are back ups. It is up to each individual to organise there own transport and accomodation(but we certainly don't mind advising, Steve will inform via SI tour newsletters), we as the HMC/HSC directors are the only ones that control the class and event at meetings and work with the event organisers, its easiest for everyone this way, all you have to do is turn up in a legal car! and so as you are originally from Timaru please feel free to help anyone that requires it Grant, it'll be great fun.

This project Torana GTR coming to HMC in the future, belongs to Richard Ryan out of Auckland, he said its been in the family along time and he's raced it in several Targa's and now wants to do historic racing. Although very project looking he said all the engine and other parts are built, new rollcage and paint job and together it goes, said he'll be with us next season!! watch this space I guess.

Great photo here I stumbled upon going through some of my old folders. This one was by Brett Young, taken at Manfeild in 1975. Its a production car race, Castrol GTX. Interesting how, 40 years later, this has a very similar look about it to Historic Muscle Cars.

Great grid, hard case when Rod Millen from 3rd row lead them out of 1st corner in Mazda RX3 Rally car straight back from Southern Cross in Aussie as was Rod Coppins L34 from Bathurst (same trip and transport)
did not stay there for long but hard case.

You know Steve, that Camaro would be eligible to run with HMC today under the current regs, but in typical Kiwi fashion someone took money and ruined it, what a shame, such a cool car with quite a presence back them!!

Isn't it amazing Rod, Americans take and old worn out piece of shit historic race car like the Yunick Camaro and beautifully restore it back to its original glory and Kiwis take neat old known classic race car like the Anderson Camaro and turn around and Hotrod the shit out of it hence ruining it forever? go figure!!

Yes I do John but remember that era after 1975/6 was known as Schedule E under MSNZ were the cars become effectively Sports Sedans, the Nazer Victor, the PDL and Sidchrome Mustangs with there boxed fenders, ugly but effective but still an era that needs to be preserved.

Yeah I agree Dale, it is a shame. That car had real presence, there was always a crowd around it, and I remember when it ran the Wellington Street Race in one of the support classes, even the commentators were in awe. As pictured above, it had 15" Corvette wheels, Muncie gearbox etc. Just a cool old, simple muscle car with a great big motor.

Dale, isn't there one of your boys that took his Camaro right back to suit your class after it had been all changed.

Yes Rod, Murray Browns 70 Camaro, original built for Super GT then ran in Central, after 10 years he was going to sell it but decided to convert back to HMC and have a bit of fun, it was a lot of work and many $$$, was all fiberglass front, 4 bar in the rear etc so quite a mission. Dale M

I find it interesting in the different psychology between racers when it comes to meeting the rules within HMC, and changing ones racer to comply, here is Murray Brown whom made a massive effort to make its Camaro fit the class, and it was major undo I'm telling yar let alone the $$ spent, then on the other hand I have another racer interested in HMC and all they have to do is go down one wheel size and down size their front brake rotors(even their calipers are correct) but NUP, not gunna do it! you need to change the rules for me! Has anyone ever heard of the term "When Hell Freezes Over" LOL.

Anyway, if you read the last Newsletter you'll see i've been onto even our current compliant racers to tidy there cars up, mostly small items like making sure headlights work, wipers, passengers seats, arm rest and window winders, inner fenders, etc, because if you let this compliance leakage slip by in 10 years time the cars would be nothing more than chopped up Sports Sedans. Offcourse any racer can choose not to do those small items and race else where, plenty of other non-complaint Hot-Rod class's to race with.

Other interesting news is i got tipped of today that we have 70 Big Block Camaro coming to HMC, owner wants to keep it road legal, more on this one later and more the merrier I say :)

Agree with what you say Dale. It's the old quarter of an inch story where one competitor cribs a quarter of an inch on something and gets away with it then over time everyone follows suit and eventually the rules are changed to accommodate this and then it's another quarter of an inch and so on.......

Purchased out of Oregon, USA Dave and Ken Sturrock picked up from the shippers Friday Kens new HMC 67 A-Sedan Camaro and tested today at Hampton, Ken flew out from his home in Texas to test for the first time but Dave promptly went out and clocked a 1:17.6 out of the box on old tyres and a cold track, its USA A-Sedan 302 engine sounded awesome pulling 7500RPM up the main straight. A few minor compliance issues to meet HMC regs which Ken is more than happy to do and its ready to race, a great addition to HMC for this coming season. Welcome on-board Ken, its a beautiful high quality built Camaro.

For those of you looking to get involved in Historic Muscle Cars, I've just been informed this 1970 Mustang is for sale.

This is an interesting car, with interesting history. It was originally built in the US by Doug Rudy for vintage racing. Doug bought the car in 1993, having seen an ad for a Boss 302 road car. Turns out, it was actually a Mach 1 428 Cobra Jet that had been later fitted with a 289.

Doug built the Mustang as a tribute to the car raced by his good friend Warren Tope, who raced an ex-Bud Moore '70 Mustang fastback in the 1971 and '72 SCCA Trans-Am series. Doug and Warren went to college together, and Doug crewed on this car for Warren. Warren Tope was killed in a racing incident in 1975.

On deciding to build this tribute car, Doug contacted Warren's father Donald Tope, to tell him his plans to build the car, and Don gave him several mementos for the project.

Doug's tribute car was featured in The Cars Of Trans-Am Racing book, written by David Tom.

The Mustang was eventually sold to Craig Harris in Australia, about four years ago, to compete in the Australian Trans-Am series. Craig is from the well known Harris family who took over the large Bryan Byrt Ford dealership in Queensland that ran XB and XC Falcon hardtops for rising star Dick Johnson in the 1970s, and also supported him in the XD in 1980.

Craig had the Mustang fully rebuilt, and went on to win the Australian Trans-Am series, before selling the car to Ian Woodward of Fataz Performance Engines. Woody has driven the car a few times himself, and also had other drivers in the car.

Woody is now building a replica Penske Camaro, so the Mustang is for sale. It can either be raced in ATA, or, with some changes, will fit the HMC rules. The ATA rules differ slightly to those of HMC, most notably the heads. Whereas ATA allows alloy heads, HMC requires cast iron. There are a few other changes that would be required, but nothing too difficult, and is a nicely built and well sorted car for someone to jump into and enjoy.

Woody can be contacted at: fataz_highperformance@bigpond.com

Hi Team, just a note to thank all those for putting on a great show. I would also like to thank those that we audited for their co-operation in the task that was at hand. For those that have COD updates to do and submit to MSNZ please ensure you send a copy of your COD once approved, to myself (drmgraham@xtra.co.nz) in colour. (make sure it has the red MSNZ stamp on each page otherwise it wont be valid). We put through 18/19 cars and everyone was kosha (apart from some minor admin things but easily fixed).
There also needs to be acknowledgement of, and thanks to, the the people who funded the Manfield Suite so that we could enjoy some comfort and peace and quiet away from the racing, in particular Mike Coory (Health House), Dale Mathers (Coastline Automotive) and Bruce Dyer (all things Italian!!), Roger Williams for his generous contribution to Friday nights outing to Essence eatery. Just as well it was liquid and not food, (refer comments below re TR) Without people like these where would we be? And then of course there is Pete "Mr Meat" Stevenson who supplied the sausages for the BBQ and of course the Allingham girls who supplied the popcorn, but last but not least to Lyn Dyer who supplied the muffins and quiche for some of us to enjoy. If you were ahead of Tony Roberts you were OK, those behind just got the crumbs!!!
It was a great weekend which I thoroughly enjoyed watching the racing, the auditing but most importantly the friendship that has emanated from this group of enthusiasts. You people are a credit to this group.
In closing, Dale, Tony, Steve & Bruce, you have a wonderful setup here and I sincerely hope it continues to grow so that we all can see the history of our sport.

See you all next time.

Best personal regards

Australian Trans-Am Returns to New Zealand

A selection of cars from the Queensland-based Australian Trans-Am Series will head to New Zealand’s Hampton Downs to race alongside the local Historic Muscle Cars in early 2017.

The Trans-Tasman muscle car battle will take place on consecutive weekends in January (13-15 and 20-22), with the latter part of the annual New Zealand Festival of Motor Racing, celebrating Formula 5000 legend Ken Smith.

This meeting will mark the series’ fourth appearance in New Zealand, following the most recent battle on Australian soil in 2015 at Queensland Raceway, Lakeside Park and the Australian Muscle Car Masters at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Trans-Am management has confirmed eight cars to head ‘across the ditch’ including Charlie O’Brien (Camaro), John English (Firebird), Robert Hackwood (Mustang), Shannon O’Brien (Firebird), Ian Woodward (Mustang), Anthony Tenkate (Mustang), Russell Wright (Mustang) and Mike Collins (Mustang).

“We are thrilled to be returning to New Zealand for the fourth time and are looking forward to putting on a show once again for the Kiwi fans,” said ATA representative Ian Woodward.

“This Trans-Tasman Series has become so valuable for both HMC and our ATA group for establishing ourselves as quality motorsport categories.

“We are excited to reignite our great racing rivalry with a capacity grid of American and Australian muscle cars at the impressive Hampton Downs facility."

Woodward also recognises those who have assisted in the organisation of this meeting.

“We’d like to make special thanks to EDI Freight for all their help and assistance in putting this freight package together.

“I’d also like to thank American Racing Wheels for their loyal support and we look forward to potentially having their NZ distributor on-hand at the track.”

The concept came to fruition as a result of a chance meeting between Woodward and HMC Director Dale Mathers at a historic race meeting at Infineon Raceway. Mathers anticipates the competition with the Trans-Am cars to be very close.

“Both ATA and HMC have a firm control of the regulations and continue to work together keeping both classes even.

“HMC are heavier cars, but are allowed any engine combination that came production for that make and model vehicle. ATA cars on the other hand are much lighter with stripped out interiors just like the Trans-Am cars from the era, but their engines are restricted to 355 cubic inch and run on 98 pump gas. The real secret is the limiting factors of both groups on the same size wheel and Hoosier bias-ply tyre combination.

“Neither class has an advantage over the other and this helps keeps the on-track performance close and the cars all looking the same.”

Round 1 of the 2017 Australian Trans-Am Series will be held at Lakeside Park on March 18-19.

Junie Donlavey took a very similar Ford Torino to Le Mans in 1976, and was hugely accomplished in the sport. $35K seems very cheap for a genuine NASCAR stock car.

It won't be fast, but it'll win the cool-factor hands-down.

Thanks for your vote of confidence Rod, I got told many times “no one will turn up unless you have points and championships” and my answer to that was “if that’s all a racer turns up for he isn’t a Classic/Historic racer then” it has to always be about the “Car” and at the end of the day isn’t it only about having a bit of fun on wheels? what we’ve done is nothing new, period correct old saloon car racing is a world-wide phenomenon yet here in NZ its look upon as been unusual, still, I always figure as long as we have enough for a grid it will give a few of us somewhere to race without any hoopla, TV, etc.

Anyway, were else will you see a grid of 11 X Mustangs, 8 X Camaros, 5 X Escorts, 2 X Pontiac Firebirds, 2 X Falcons, 2 X Torana’s(one a real GTR XUI) 1 X HK Monaro(a genuine Bathurst model and probably the most valuable car on the grid) 1 X Capri, 1 X Dodge Aspen, 1 X RX2 Mazda, 1 X Datsun 240K, 1 X BMW 2002, all Pre 12/77 Saloons in period guise on their correct size wheels, I can retire now(yeah rite)

While im at it I really do need to thank HRC’s Chris Watson, Tony Roberts, TACCOC’s Jim Barclay, Grant Clegg and MG Classics Ron Robertson for having the same vision as myself, Bruce Dyer and Steve Holmes, doesn’t come easy these days as there’s always plenty of knockers.

Merry X-Mas and Happy New Year from HMC/HSC and ATA.

Great lineup Dale, guaranteed crowdpleaser of the weekend! Wouldn't it make sense to take it on for a third consecutive weekend at Taupo, including the Aussies. Two variations of Hampton Downs plus the Taupo track would be a great experience for our visitors and plenty of time to get the cars back for the beginning of their own local series.

Looked at all that but 3 weeks in a row was a costly hassle let alone the extra cost to the Aussies to get there cars to Taupo and back again. Tiz a great idea though :) Merry X-Mas Murray.

This is the latest New Zealand Historic Muscle Cars/Historic Saloon Cars legends poster I just completed, and which will be available at the Tasman Revival at Hampton Downs in January. Jack Nazer will be on-hand to sign copies.

Thanks to Terry Marshall for the beautiful photos.

Dale Mathers has organised to have Jack at the event, while Mike Coory at Health House is printing the posters.

Well that's the HMC/HSC season done and dusted, the "Legends of Speed" meeting went down a treat and what was looking to be threatening weather conditions heading up to the weekend ended up not been the case, in fact it was perfect racing conditions, high humidity keep the big cars slow and the grid tight which made for some fantastic battles. All three races went to the checker with no on track damage between cars. All in all a great weekend for our Historic Muscle and Saloon group. As I'm racing myself I can only capture pit pictures, here are a few. Dale M

Dale as good a shot as it is Rodg had that Camaro a lot higher than that. Using the kerbs as launch pads does that to a car I reckon he was half a metre off the ground at one point. That was a great race you guys had.

Revival or Festival Dale?

We were going to the Festival for the Friday of this year, but another change of travel plans has ruled that out.

The Revival has to be on everyone's bucket list, though I have to say that in 2016, with only the two Austin A35 races, there were no other saloons.

The big disappointment for me, as with other major meets is that each group gets just one practice/qualifying and one race over the three days and the last race of each day is quite late. A lot of hanging about with nothing happening on track. Off track however, you could spend two days just wandering the stalls and car parks.

The major positive is just that, the off track stuff, plus superb trackside viewing - and a huge variety of food stalls!

Thanks goes to MSNZ board member Raymond "Crunch" Bennett for chairing the meeting, he had to fly from PN to AKL and back on a shitty day. We had a questions and answers session and covered next season meetings. Straight afterwards it was BBQ and drinkee's to keep it social..........great to see new people coming on-board with the furthest traveled coming from Levin and New Plymouth. The class is building slowly and steady which is the best way I believe.

July 2017 HMC and HSC Newsletter along with Race dates

Greetings HMC/HSC Racers, Family and Fans

Our Annual AGM style Seminar on May 20th at the McLaren Workshop, Hampton Downs went down a treat with an excellent turnout. Initially we expected around 20 to 25 people but we ended up with 50 attending so well done and thanks for all those that made the effort to turn up. The weather was terrible but we kicked of at 11am sharp, the meeting was Chaired by MSNZ Executive Raymond(Crunch) Bennett who flew up from Palmerston North.

HMC Director Steve Holmes started by explaining New Zealand’s interesting Motorsport history along with Australians Motorsport History and how this relates and intertwins with HMC and HSC regulations. In fact Steve’s presentation was so superb that you could have heard a pin drop. It was full of excellent detail and not boring at all. I am sure most came away with a better understanding on what HMC and HSC is about.

Crunch then gave a short presentation and took questions from the floor. Bruce Dyer asked for a show of hands about continuing racing both groups together and everyone agreed, after all this is how the racing was in period.

After this I stood up and covered race dates, the direction of the two groups and the current happenings in Historic and Classic motorsport here and worldwide. The meeting ended after about 3 hours and we had a BBQ and drinks.

Also in attendance were our Tech Auditors Keith Hargraves and Dave Graham. These two do a great job keeping the vehicles in check and more importantly helping out new racers to HMC and HSC by sorting out the necessary paperwork. Mike Fiesst and Phil Noble help with photography and run both our Facebook pages, it was great to have them with us as was our class Coodinator Mike Wigmore. Good to see Motor Racing Legend Alan Boyle attend and explain what it was like back in those days, we certainly are spoilt in todays world.

Was also great to see some new faces amongst us, Rally car racer Greg Goudie brings along a V8 Capri this season, Jason Sabin his XA Falcon coupe, Philip Macey a XC Falcon Cobra, Graeme Bagarie 69 Mustang (drove all the way from Levin), and Doc John Elliot building a LX Torana, Craig Hyland HQ Monaro, Karl Sentch Capri V8 were all in attendance, thanks for coming guys. A Gold Coin donation was made to the McLaren Trust as thanks for the use of their workshop, it set a nice theme for the day. I’d say its most likely we’ll have an annual meeting like this after each season.

Next seasons 2017/18 HMC and HSC Race Dates
Daylight Saving Starts, Sunday 24th September
1. 14th October 2017, TACCOC Classic One Day Saturday - Hampton Downs

5. 17/18th March 2018, HRC Legends – Hampton (WON’T Clash with Beach Hop)
Daylight Saving Ends, Sunday 1st April 2018
6 7/8 April 2018, Great lakes Taupo – HRC – Taupo
Meetings 2, 4 and 5 are our premier events

Dales Ramblings: I spoke about race dates and driver participation at our May seminar and I asked for driver feedback. I sent an E-mail out the week after our meeting to gauge feedback and most came back with the above dates been the most favourable. Not only do they represent the best spread over the summer, but stacking too many dates together tends to take some racers away from meetings and other summer priorities. The above dates are our official meetings.

On the technical side there has been a change in our brake calipers from Wilwood Engineering in the USA. After 35 plus years they have decide to stop making the Wilwood Grand Nation GNIII 6 Piston Caliper. They have unfortunately replaced it with a modern version of a Forged Radial mount style Caliper with mounting bracket. This puts these new calipers outside our regulations and won’t be legal to use.

In the last month or so I’ve been swapping E-mails with Wilwood’s management begging them not to do this, or just to continue making small batches of the GNIIIs. But of course little ol’ NZ doesn’t have the population to generate sales that a big American company like Wilwood is looking for. Meanwhile Wilwood said it will continue to make all its other calipers including Superlite 6 lug mount two piece caliper which will be the best alternative for the bigger HMC cars.

You can still continue to use your old set of GNIII’s or find some second hand ones. I see they’re still available new on E-Bay in the USA but once current stock is used up that will be it. As an alternative I’ve been in contact with a Australian company that can make brake calipers in small batches and possibly copy the old GNIII, I’m yet to hear back but will keep you informed once I do.

Steve Holmes is in the process of building a new Website that will have more updated information and a new look. For the HMC cars we will have, over time, regulations for every vehicle on the eligibility list and easy to understand updated regs for the HSC cars. It takes time to build all the information required for every vehicle.

For this coming season No COD will mean No entry as everyone has had more than enough time to file their paperwork, or to even update their current COD if out dated. Remember MSNZ event officials don’t except entrees without a Log book so same applies here. It pays to be organised when it comes to sorting out CODs and Logbooks so this is a reminder to do it now. http://www.motorsport.org.nz/content/certificate-description-cod form T009 for new COD’s and form T010 to update your COD

HMC/HSC Calendars: Some of you may know that Phil Noble, Jim Lester and Allie Hogg have been working on a calendar for 2018. Phil informs me that at this time a selection of images have been submitted and hopefully this week will see some final selections made. Criteria for these selections revolve around a reasonable even split between HMC and HSC, the image quality, a representation of the different tracks/events we raced on last summer and a few of our historically famous cars. Phil informs me that the quality of images to be considered is absolutely outstanding.

Once a final selection has been made, the drivers who are sponsoring the project will get a chance to approve the images used. Once this is done Steve Holmes has kindly agreed to provide the text for the captions. Phil hopes to meet with the calendar people in the next 2-3 weeks to cover off production issues and hopes to have finalised result in about 4-6 weeks. At this stage we have received indications of interest from about 80 people who want to buy a calendar. If you are interested please contact Phil directly via email (below) or Facebook as we need to know for numbers. At this stage we can only consider NZ based supporters, but may be able accommodate orders from Oz if someone was able to coordinate it locally.

Just when you thought you knew of all the rules and regulations along comes someone who does not want to give up on the idea of competing with the "Big Boys". The news of this car in NZ has reached the United States. The project is further along than what these photos show and it is awaiting its final stages of special US aircraft "stealth" paint so it will remain unseen on the radar and to the competition. It is a Morris Minor convertible especially modified to accept a high performance V-12 engine and custom exhaust system.
Take a good look at these photos as it may be the last you see of this vehicle until it is next seen out in front of the field as the "pace car" either in NZ or at the Indy 500 !

In the on going push to keep our fleet as historic as possible we have decide that all Capris whether V6 or Perana must be on there correct production 13inch wheels as this was how they are raced historically overseas(and NZ). Before the directors made this decision we contacted the current Capri owners racing with us last season to toss this idea around and to work out a decent time frame, January 2020 was decided on. We then contacted those with Capris coming to HMC with our decision and managed to sort that out.............as from today any new builds will need to be on the correct 13 inch wheel with a maximum 8 inches wide, there are plenty of 13 inch tyre options and infact as many as in 15 inch.

Picture attached is the Seton touring Car Capri V6 on 13 inch wheels(tyres are slicks because it races in Group A/C Touring Cars) Dale M

Thanks for that. Simmons have a long and interesting history, and along with Mawer were one of the founding Aussie companies manufacturing proper lightweight racing wheels. Prior to this, the wealthy teams in Australia had expensive imported American Racing, Minilite etc wheels, while the budget teams mostly had widened steel wheels.

And I've just been informed that this 63.5 Falcon Futura V8 is currently on its way from the USA and will join the ranks of Historic Muscle Cars............these are such cool cars and two door hardtops are not an easy find.

Great in-car footage from David Thompson Jr's Mk1 Escort from the weekend..........I though John Dennehys Escort was quick but David was rite on his case and really made the big cars work.

Thank you Dale, for posting up the entry list.

This needs to be done with all classes if the event promotors want spectators to turn up!! I wasn't going to go to this meeting, other things are more pressing, but based on the list above, there are a couple of cars I want to check out so I will make the effort to turn up. If this list hadn't been posted, I wouldn't have known and hence wouldn't have turned up, and there are probably others in the same boat.

Thanks for the feedback Andrew, sometimes postings are a double edge sword.............like you some see it as informative and others see it as giving up too much information................but I believe posting on the RR is more direct marketing to those with an interest in our hobby/sport rather than with some social media sites..

Hope you enjoyed the day...Dale M

Yes I think it would be fair to say Ken had a great weekend and seemed to have a constant smile on his face. I am sure he met heaps of people from the old days.

You would not of thought that I have lost 11Kgs....more work to do...
No flies in the photo which was amazing considering I blamed Charlie O’Brien for bringing them over from Aussie with him !

Ken will be smiling all the way home and was great to have him over here.

This was a fantastic meeting, good attendance, no serious damage to our group and the theme was right on the button for this year.
Weather was seriously hot.
Well done BMMP for great event.
19 F5000, 24 HMC/HSC, 13 Historic Touring cars, 19 HSS and great field of FJ’s plus the bikes....something for everyone.

Paul Fahey sold out of books both days and HMC/HSC put on a great display of cars for Paul over the 2 days, thanks to Rayden for bringing the Willment Escort, John for the Cambridge Monaro, Don Fenwick for the Possum Cortina V8, Poul Christie for the Lotus Cortina, Sean and Jane for the Fleetwood Mustang, Pat Excell for the Anglia and Tony and Colleen for the PDL Mustang tribute and for taking Paul for a ride in his lovely car. A special moment for Tony.
You guy really made it happen for Paul, Kerry and Ray.

Thanks

Cheers

Brand New car to HMC for the final meeting at Taupo on the weekend was Sean McCaughans superb built Geoghegan Replica 71 XY Falcon. Out of the box it performed fantastic, a credit to the driver and builder. I'm sure some on-track action shots will come up on the RR soon.

What a fantastic weekend of racing for our final event of the season, the Taupo Great Lakes under HRC. Historic Muscle and Saloon finally grew up.............we started with 15 cars(1 sports car to test the waters) had an absolute fantastic weekend of historic racing and comradery......car of the weekend would have to have been Greg Goudies fabulous FIA BDG Mk 1 Escort.......taking it to the V8's. The Saturday night banquet dinner was a hoot, more pictures to come on this.
