How to post images that are on your computer:

The first thing to do is make sure your photos are no larger than approx 800 - 900 pixels wide (so they can fit on the screen) and no larger in file size than 160kb.

At the bottom right corner of the message/reply box is a button that reads "Go Advanced". Click this button. Click the small icon on the top row above the message/reply box that looks like a piece of paper with a paper clip on it, and which reads "Attachments" when you hover your mouse over it.

In the new "Manage Attachments" window that has opened, click the "Add Files" button in the top right corner. In the pop-up box that appears, click the "Select Files" button, and navigate your way to where your image(s) are kept on your computer. Double click the image(s) you want and they will appear in the pop-up box.

Click the "Upload Files" button and your image(s) will appear in the bottom left corner of the "Manage Attachments" window. Click the "Done" button in the bottom right corner of the "Manage Attachments window and this window will close.

Now click on the small icon above your message/reply box once more (the one that looks like a piece of paper with paper clip on it, and a drop down will appear that contain the name of the images you have just uploaded. Click them and they will appear in the message/reply box.

How to post videos

Copy the web page name of the video you wish to insert, eg: http://www.youtube.com/????????????????? Click the icon above the message/reply box that looks like a film strip and reads "Insert Video" when you hover your mouse over it. Paste the website name you just copied into the "Insert Video Clip" pop-up that appears, then click OK.

I have found anything larger than 750 x 750 gets chopped when you post on this site. A lot of photos on here have missing side bits.

In my experience after having reduced the picture to below the maximum sizes that are acceptable, I am told the pictures are too large, when after reducing them more I can upload them but they are more than half the size of others that are posted. I have asked the question through the "contact us"button but have had no reply.

You should be able to get around this by using one of the on-line services like Image Shack, Photo Bucket, Postimage etc.
I think they all have a resizing facility which can reduce photos to a "forum posting" size without you having to fiddle around at all.

I have been using Postimage as it seems simplest for one of my advanced years.

OK thankyou for that, I will try something new, Steve tells me I am trying to load a full A4 sized image and that it is the way I have scanned all these pics, I will have to have a good at the way I am doing things. Somewhere in my archive I think I have a photo of you in a Ferrari sports car.

I've noticed the occasional comment in threads about problems resizing images.
I use Microsoft's Paint software. Free with every Windows installation. The package isn't good for much but it does have an easy to use image resize feature. On the 'Home' tab, click the Resize button, select the Pixels button, type in 800 for image width (with the 'Maintain aspect ratio' check box ticked), hit OK, and save. Sometimes I have to go a bit smaller to get the file size down.

Hi Steve,
I have just bought a great picture from Auto Pics showing Beechys Nova after it had been sold to John Kay and Tony Bowden.
Can this be posted without infringing copyright?
