This was the first Dino 246 I ever saw - and still on Italian plates - it was raced that day! For years, I thought that maybe it belonged to Frank Sytner, but it was a replacement entry and it was either David Weir or Mike Ogier.

That Dino is the same as the one John Samson parked very neatly in large drain 30 metres befor the spot Bruce parked his Cooper that spun on oil from??/ ?? car 1965? he just cliped the ambulance parked there.When John put his Dino in upto the door windows with a mitre to spare on both sides,to get it out several drivers striped to the last item and climbed into the waist deep water to hook the cable on,when Bruce went in the drain had not been drained, cleared of watercress ect.Had John gone in upside down who knows what the result would have been, not a nice thought
Whenuapai 1987 but this energetically driven Porsche was a late entry so I have no idea of the driver. No doubt someone on here will know.

Alfa GTA was a great sight, with Richard Atkinson's Ford V6 Marcos (now owned by FF driver Phil Foulkes) in the background. Richard had two Marcos at the time, both painted bright yellow. You don't realise how low the Marcos is until you park it alongside another smallish car. It makes an MGB look like a double decker... Yes, this is a plywood chassis car too.

I presume this is the car that was in the Donington Museum almost from day one - the Maserati based Tech-Mec. As the same car was out at the Monaco Historics 2012, is this yet another fascinating car that has been sold off?

There is something "correct" about front engined racers that I can't really define. I think they have an individuality totally lacking in todays computer generated look alikes. One of two Scarabs now out racing. Once again, I am not sure if Donington still has their example.

When the 1.5 litre F1 formula was announced for 1961 to 1965, many pundits saw it as the death of Formula 1. Probably because I was old enough to take a keen interest and read every report of every race, it remains in my memory as an era when the drivers had to drive so much harder, faster, smoother, to make up for the lack of power and it was when many of the great names came to the fore - not to mention a shift from Italian and German dominance to British dominance. BRM came of age so it was their only golden patch, before slowly sliding into oblivion again.

1987, Gordon Burr was running a quick Porsche then and he drove the doors of it. He actually won Championship back then. Also Roger Anderson had a couple of drives in a Porsche I think.
ERC, the NZ owners of Mk1 Lotus Cortinas think they are too valuable to 'race'. Well our car is valuable too. If you had to replicate the Amco Mini or any of those period S cars, you are looking at $100,000+++. Yes, I kid you not, its eye-watering stuff.
There is one Mini Cooper S, with a history, that has been restored by Upper Classics in ChCh for a figure in excess of $135,000 !!!!!!!!!!!
The Mk1 Lotus was never a very robust vehicle in its original state, especially when pushed along hard, so maybe that is one of the reasons we dont see them on the race track, and that is a shame. Along with the Cooper S they formed a big part of Motoracing history.
Ray, those Sports Car Club Pics bring back some memories. All pre Vehicle Certification.The blue Car MK9894 was built by Glen the guy in the blue shirt standing next to it. It had a 350 chev and reversed Corvair box that didnt last long. I think Oldfart may have owned it briefly. The white Mirage Turbo in the picture was still under warranty but I couldnt tell the Mitsi agent that it only jumped out of gear on the Pukekohe Club circuit. The rare two door Allegro will be well known to you. Is it still around. The other Picture is of George Spratts Aurora. I think it was mid engined. George was an interesting but very clever chap who used to drive around in a Roller. I think he put a Mini Engine and Subframe into the rear of a BMW Isetta. Post Certification (1990) guys are still building cars but we dont see as many one offs as we did in the 80's. Graeme

That two door Allegro Equipe 1750 was sold to a young guy who headed for Warkworth. Not sure if the car still exists (it hasn't been on the road for several years), but if it does still exist, I'd be very keen to restore it. An under-rated car that only needed a stiffer front end to make it handle as well as the lighter and better balanced 1300.
I don't seem to have a race programme for this meeting so would welcome any comment or car/driver i/d to help me date the pics.

Yep, Pearson ran a Imp with Renault engine in it, and then in this car. Roger, was it the Imp he turned on it's roof going down the front straight at Puke when he hit the crossing and it bounced and went sideways and onto roof in practice. Remember we were in pits standing with Rutherford and co. just getting into our cars when heard a funny bounce noise, then a skid and a grinding noise, and looked over pit wall to see it on its lid slidding down the track. Didn't hit anything either, he was pretty lucky.
Thanks for that. I have the Pearson Renault down as 3500cc on 31/01/1993 also carrying the same number - 81, so could this be 1993 after all?
