I love this shot. Circuit racing sidecar team gets set to blast down the quarter mile. Would it not have been faster without the swinger?
I wonder what time they ran?

Many of you will know the name Steve Hildred. Steve has raced a beautiful red HT Monaro in circuit racing for the past twenty or so years. He was also the main driving force behind the Central Muscle Cars series and the main guy to beat for years before all the really big spenders started arriving.
Long before he built the Monaro, Steve ran this wild Chevy V8 powered Viva station wagon on the quarter mile. I wonder what happened to this car? I have a very vague recollection of it being shown on tv news crashing with a later owner. Or maybe I just imagined that?

Thanks Paul, great info. This car here apparently started life as a Shelby that was written off. Maybe the motor ended up in the drag car, with the rest ending its days on the speedway?

This was crashed at the S bend bridge in Chapel Rd by the little church. That corner was the scene of several bad accidents in the early 70's that took at least half a dozen lives, one alone took 4 (some I knew). The Shelby sat in Kaspa Motors wrecking yard in Otahuhu for some time until the remains were used for the speedway car .
Yep, thats a fact....remember seeing it there, as I was working in Otahuhu early 70s to early 80s, and the story,
What ever happened to Mustang of Trevor Morris after its accident in Onehunga?
Thanks guys, really interesting story on the Mustang. Was it a GT350 or GT500?
