Without checking any programmes...
Top one looks like the Kato Special, then
the Lotus 15, I think in John Armstrong's day
John Riley's rebodied F1 Lotus, probably before it got its Oldsmobile engine
the Heron-Daimler
Not immediately recognisable - I'll have to think abpout it
one of the Lolas - probably Ivy Stephenson's
I think the Lola with carrying No44 it was possibly in Dave Wallaces time,as I have some other photos of it that look very similar
I think the John Riley Lotus photo was early in the piece when it had the Climax ,because I think it grew bigger tyres later on,likewise I have got to think on the No 33 taken on that angle
I think the 33 car might be a Lotus, though I don't recognise the paintjob. Either one of the XIs, or the Scurrah/Richards Lotus-Consul (rebodied)
Just checked the programme for the '67 geepee meeting. No.32 was Dave Holloway in the Kato Special, and 33 was Ron Williams in a Lotus-Climax 1100. This was the ex-Basil Campion car which Williams put through the fence and onto the railway-line
Attachment 4865How about this one? Hint, it's not what it looks like!
Must be the Robat Mantis then:)
Actually, looking at the wheels - scratch that...
hi one sports car i can think of, ex trevor crowe, john armstrong MG TF sidevalve V8 sorry no photos. This was a very succesful hill climber anyone know of it or if it still is about ged
Ged, Johnny Armstrong is living in Brisbane or the Gold Coast. Runs a rental car company.
I always understood that the only thing MG about the Crowe/Armstrong car was its body - it was basically a V8 special
Rob Shand Jr raced it at the first Dunedin historic meeting, and I believe it is now a member of the Mauger family
John Armstrong lives in Havlock in the Marlborough sounds and is still a practicing Motorsport NZ Steward, he will be at the Scope meting in February.
Swings and roundabouts, OF - just wait! :D
Barry Porter`s old car.
Peter Froggatt's U2?
Looks like what is left of the Tojeiro Jaguar. But I am probably wrong. Those front wheels look a bit special to me.
I will have to contact Steve Ross, as his partner is Leo's sister.
You wouldn't know if it was Jag powered or had the Chev in it by then, Carl.
Like everything back then....shove a Chevy in it.. Looking at the rear wheels suggests that the axle has been changed, yet the exhausts look remarkably Jaguar.....can just get a glimpse of the pipes behind the front wheel. Bonnet doesn't appear to have been bulged!!!!! Dont know.....over to you Carlo.
Can some of you guys post some car info to educate me when you put up some car photos as you lot have the unfair advantage over me and you are all topping up your sun tans too !!
Brent raced it with the Jaguar engine. His "Special" claim to fame was when he raced it in the sports car races at Wigram and then fitted a type of hardtop to it and raced it in the Allcomers saloon car class later in the day.
He and Leo did get a bit of a hard time from Team Timaru over that but it did show that they were innovative.
Someone must have some photos of it at that meeting, it was a bit hard case looking.
I think Brent ran it as an allcomer saloon after he heard Scuderia Veloce were going to be allowed to run their Ferrari 250LM. It had a roof, so it must be a saloon, right?
I'm pretty sure the Tojeiro's owners all resisted the temptation to drop a Chevy V8 in
