I was recently in the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart and they had a 917 crankshaft on display, made from Titanium and weighed 13 kgs, 10 kgs lighter than a steel crank. Very cheap too I would imagine.
What a shame we cant turn the clock back to 1970. What a fantastic group of saloons. If only motor racing was like that now.
Hi Rod, checked my facts re the red tiger, that one belongs to Dale Akuszewski (Dales Restorations) apparently has 289 engine, but has standard brake calipers and must run 13" wheels. 400 plus HP. My...
Hi Rod, if it was a Mk1 Tiger, which I think it is, it would be running the 260 CI engine so that would make it even better. Only the Mk2s had the 289 and I think the cars have to be very period...
Hi,yes I still have the car, its a lot of fun. A number of Tigers in the US (where most of them reside) have been stroked to 347 and have in excess of 400 hp. I understand mine is about 360 hp. The...
Thank you. The wheels are American Pannasports. They are used quite a lot on Tigers.
Kiwi285 Do you mean something like this. Unfortunately 289 has been stroked and bored to 305 so dosent quite fit the bill.
Yes the car is a wee bit out of place in that group, but surely there must be a group to run in at HD next weekend. A new set of tyres would be of more advantage than a sequential gearbox?
I dont think I have seen the Escort race, but it is certainly a beautiful car. I am sure if you had a genuine Alan Mann Escort racing with a good driver, it to would blitz the feild. Why not allow...
In the picture of the Dolomite Sprint, I am pretty sure the man in the brown jacket is Ralph Broad, of Broadspeed. I think the car is in Group 2 spec and it could be Andy Rouse in the centre.
The ex Arthur Kennard Healey Corvette was at Highlands Park over the weekend, now in plain black and looking extremely nice having been recently restored. It is about to have it's twin 4 barrel carbs...
Go onto the www.vhrr.com website. There is a list of contacts. They will be able to point you in the right direction. They are extremely helpful and accomodating. It is an event not to be missed....
Was this the car Brent Hawes had. If so I recall seeing it sitting for sale outside in the weather,at Speedway Motors in Timaru looking the worse for wear. I think they wanted around 1400 pounds for...
I have always felt that the simplest way of checking a historic cars elegebility is to ask the question, Could this have been built in its day, meaning that the parts must have been available to the...
I am not sure that "chose" would be the correct word. You very much took what you could get. Very few imports and to buy a new car generally involved a waiting list or having overseas funds which...
No it wasnt the Clyde Collins PDL Falcon (which ended up as a road car in Dunedin). As far as I remember it was orange, looked more like a production touring car (but wasnt) and was from Australia....
It was at Wigram, and I can still remember to this day the little Escort howling down the straight prior to the start finish line. I think it must have been the best it ever went. Was it Moffat in a...
The exhaust on the GT40s had the two centre cylinder exhaust pipes of one bank coupled to the the two outer cylinder exhaust pipes of the other bank just behind the engine in order to give better...
Southspeed, did you you get any photos of the Mustang P51 flyover. Also some photos of the Historic Touring cars?
I think the Teretonga meeting is a club meeting, not a "Classic Meeting" but with a Classic Theme. Perhaps if Dale Mathers is so concerned about the type of entries at Teretonga he could organise a...
I have brought in 2 E30 M3 DTM cars. The first one was 6 years ago and didnt have a log book, but was not too much of a problem to have the cage inspected and certified. The second car had a log...
The Fowog could be Graeme McKerrow from Dunedin.
What has happened to Schedule AA for classic cars which was to a slightly lower standard. Could Sched AA not be ammended to encompass the older requirements.
I am not sure why there is a need to have a seperate body for Classic and Historic Racing. We already have one, MSNZ. It is just that it dosent work properly for C&HR.MSNZ is there to administer ALL...
