Great photos. I thought I went to all the B&Vs but must have missed that one as I don't remember the Jag anyone know the drivers and how it did in the race?
It was Robbie Lester and Robert Orr. They lasted longer than expected but still retired.
I remember that the Jag was very competitive until the inboard disc brakes fried the oil seals in the diff and forced its retirement - my second photo in earlier post shows the 'cooking' oil smoke coming from the rear of the car.Originally Posted by seaqnmac27

Winners were Leo Leonard/Gary Sprague Charger. I must have disposed of most of magazines from late 70's in a house shift so this is all I can find so far. Damn!
I see I had noted positions at various distances, and Pedersen/Oxton Leyland P76 was leading at lap 157. I wonder what happened after that. Oh, turned page and there's more. At lap 174 Wilkinson/Harrington, Phillips/McLean, then Leonard/Sprague. Then at lap 267 it was Leonard-Sprague/Phillips-McLean/Pederson-Oxton. That may have been the final positions as programme showed 9 hours duration, not an exact number of laps and 267 laps is about 960 kms - close enough??

Dauntsey Teagles P76 comes out to race at Historics periodically, was that raced at this meeting?

2 Entries did not start, the second P76 - Hogg/Marriott and Bryan Bate/Bob Donaldson Cortina. The winner covered 270 laps. The Oxton/Pedersn P76 probably would have won, but at 5.30 a front brake caliper had worn through and welded itself to the shoe. The stop to replace the whole caliper unit cost 8 minutes. That is according to the report in MotorActionProgramme page with entry and graffiti - hope you can read it looks a bit ropey!

Yes, that tallies with the notes I must have taken down from the PA system. At lap 157 the Oxton/Pederson P76 was leading the Chargers of Wilkinson/Harrington and Leonard/Sprague by a lap, and then by lap 174, Leonard was leading and the P76 was seventh, 3 laps down. Information system must have been pretty good that year.

Here's some more photos from the archives of '78 B and H. I seem to have shelled out for a roll of colour film as well which after 40 years, the negatives perhaps haven't stood up as well as the b&w negatives.
Anyway still nice to have a look at - perhaps stubuchanan still has an old program he can scan again to fill us in with all the drivers names which is brilliant.
Photo 3rd down is the late Nick Begavic, he was a very handy driver and also co-drove a Falcon with Dick Johnston but unfortunately the seat back broke. Remember Nick co-driving a 60 lap race at Waikaraka Park with Ron Kendall, first guy did 30 laps then race was stopped to infield for driver change and refuel. We had some laughs with Nick getting him in and out of the Mazda. Remember, doors welded up. If they did not win, they were right at the pointy end anyway.
