    Australian V8 Supercars

I realise that this is probably not the place to post this but I am very disappointed.
To those of you who haven't heard yet TV3 did not bid for the rights to the Aussie V8 Supercars and it was picked up by Sky TV. According to Sky none of the races (including Bathurst) will be available on free to air TV with the exception of Pukekohe which will be broadcast delayed. Well done TV3. This just follows the rubbish coverage of last year's Targa Rally.
So that will, in my opinion, spell the death nell of V8 supercars in this country for both fans and advertisers.

Not that it's that interesting any way but it sounds like a good thing to me. All of TV3's coverage has been time delayed and every year you have to put up with them having " News " brakes, right at the finish of Bathurst ! Good on ya Sky. Even better if it's live.

I always liked watching this on TV1 then TV3.
I dont like sky, prices outrageous and wont join.
I guess V8supercars is dead for me.
No more Bathurst- been watching since 70s
Bright side- dont have to watch the Gizz driving a Holden.

We are in a minority here guys but i do feel the same, and it will surely draw the biggest crowd of any motorsport event here in NZ due to its high profile exposure!! i personally wont be there and if i am(like at the first and last Hamilton events) it will be via a donated pass but otherwise i really don't bother with TV so no showing is not a bother to me!! other than the razamataz of the "Supercar" show id prefer to watch the other class's as most drag there vehicles out for this "great" once a year public show down, and surely the most action packed and entertaining of all will be the spectacular Central Muscle cars along with a mixed GT1 field as proven last year!!

Ray(Green) with your 100 plus ERC field how come your group isn't at this?

Live on Sky lastnight was excellent...no ads. Only way to watch...roll on tonight.

Funny people are saying less people are going to watch. Been talking to people in the last few days and MORE people have been saying they are going to start watching it again due to it being live.

There are ways to get it on the net free...I watched support races last night.

    SKY.....no ads...live Superbikes, MotoGP, F1 and now Supercars.....awesome....roll on 2013

Agree Haga.....I got sick of TV3 as by Sunday when they showed first race I already knew Saturdays race results so little point getting excited (and usually recorded it then fast forwarded much of it). Then Sundays race being shown at 1:00am Monday was useless as like many others had to work on Monday so rarely bothered with it!!
Now I've got mates without Sky already saying "we're coming to your place for big races".....good social opportunity to get few together to enjoy live AND interrupted racing so suits me.

It would be great if you could tell me wgere to find it free on the net Haga. I'm not that computer savy and every way I try to get live timing or live streaming is blocked. I would happily pay for the sport channels but one has to buy all the other rubbish to get it.

I think having the Sky TV coverage is a huge step forward in showing the other channels how it`s done. Not having to listen to Shaun `the tool' Summerfield or Phil `the dork' Dark is in itself worthy of paying for Sky. The tripe those two clowns dribble on about, or try to sensationalize, is just crap. Yes John, it`s great to see the Gizz driving a Holden, and with 47 weeks to go to next years Festival, it`ll be your turn when we`ll all get to see your pristine and immaculately restored Monaro in all its glory.

There is another way to get the coverage, there usually is an unencrypted feed (with no ads) on one of the Optus sats. It can be a bit tedious sometimes chasing the feed around as they tend to swap it around, but the last ten years Bathurst has had a feed (in some cases Bathurst has had THREE feeds, the one that goes to the affiliates, ie the one you would see on a FTA channel, an in car/and pits feed, and a raw feed with no commentry), as have most of the v8supercars ATTC rounds. Yesterday it was on Optus D2, 12676 v 15000 DVB S2. As these feeds are usually on the Asia beam, NZers usually can get them with a suitable dish. Most NZers would get the D2 and D1 feeds with a 90cm KU dish and a 10700 LNB. As some of the feeds are now in HD I'd reccemend a newer blind scan STB that can do MPEG4. I use an "Ultraplus" branded STB that does all HD and can "blind scan" but there are plenty of others available that do the same job. Forums like http://www.vetrun.net and http://www.austech.info/ can provide further info

    Quite simple Dale.

    1) Tier 1 & ST, V8 Super cars etc., are only really interested in series that bring in oodles of TV sponsorship cash or are Sanctioned Series.

    2) We have never been invited...

or: I think that unlike HMC, many of our cars are neither fast enough, noisy enough nor dramatic enough to appeal to Joe public, even though race finishes might be close and grids are well supported. Certainly much better than the 10 Suzuki Swifts or 12 V8 Utes I half watched on TV3 Sunday. We don't condone dodgem car tactics either, which is probably what the much of the crowd like to see. At that level, apart from the tyre smoking drama of Muscle cars, the average punter doesn't seem to be all that interested in the cars themselves.

Yep, sorry guy's but live and no adds and not having to wait until 11 at night after spending afternoon watching the day before race also full of adds is up my alley. Bring your chilly bin and a steak and a driver, its only a phone call away. Think my missus is rapt.

Arr come on Ray, been a ex brit and worldy when it comes to auto racing you have plenty to offer!! i have read some of your postings here on TRR, your on going fight over your rollcage and other antee MSNZ discussions and here you are selling yourself and your group short when this could be your "hour of need" your moment to "STEP UP" and show what ERC has? you are a long time established group and you have the numbers, this is what these event organisers want and would gladly take you(i'd say), you have the ability to handle all the "politicking" as we've seen here on TRR!! and as for "not fast enough" hardly, the Manon escort is quicker than my Mustang, Noisy? you have a Morgan V8 in your group that sounds beautiful(and noisy) along with others, "enough dramatic appeal" come on Ray the variety of cars in you group across the board is truly spectacular, you have a finely tuned handicapping system that works, and on and on etc. I think you are quite wrong and the crowd would luv to see these cars as not everyone is into "Muscle Cars" and the public appeal would be huge and certainly better than "as you say" 10 Suzuki Swifts and 12 V8 Utes!!

So what say you, im a simple person so im sure you have all the answers to my above "ramblings" but really come on Ray, it wouldn't hurt to give it ago would it, im sure an invite would be easy!!

Dale, the drivers in Rays series enjoy themselves, what would they gain from "stepping up" to be with the Aussie V8s apart from larger entry fees?

With regards the the Aussie V8 Supercars TV coverage, its been pretty obvious over the years that V8 Supercars will side with whoever pays the most money, and you are just expected to go along with it.
They did get a bit greedy with their TV coverage in Australia though, with V8 Supercars saying that there is big competition for the TV rights in Australia, but in the end, only the existing TV rights holder Channel 7 put in a bid, and they got the rights for the next two years at a substantially cheaper rate than previously.

Maybe sky did the same with their bid, but it is really 'live', not like we have had to endure in years of late. I actually stopped watching because of delay and adds. But will watch it 'live' now. TV in NZ to me are fairly checkie, as they actually charge NZ groups for coverage. Personally I would be asking them for a couple $s for putting on the show for them.

And...it is more live then Aussie due to no add breaks which Aussie will be suffering from - so "our" races finish before theirs.
I did hear both Puke and Bathurst going to be on Prime - bit of a let down if you ask me. Having said that, could you imagine sitting on the couch for 6 and a quarter hours without a pitstop??? We need the breaks so we can go toilet and make room for the next sausage and beer!
