    2013 Goodwood Festival Of Speed

Not a historic event as such, but it does draw some very historic cars. But its a significant event on the annual motoring calendar, and features vehicles you won't see at other events. And its just about the only place these days where you can get up close and personal to a modern Formula 1 car.

Anyway, here are official photos from this years event.

Much better with a guard over the chain drive....shame Parry Thomas hadn't thought so...

Yes, BABS. I remember seeing it at Silverstone in the early 1990s, in the pits. They started it, and I was sure the earth had just split in two!

Perhaps you need to read up on the restoration. (and recovery of the car). Not being unkind, however during the uncovering of the car it states that it is now conclusive that the chain had nothing to do with the death of Parry, more that the rollover at 100+mph had him exposed and dragged along under the upside-down car, which resulted in the outcome we do know, just that the chains were blamed for decades, and undeservedly so. I have found some early photos with Parry Thomas which show chain cum rear mudguards just like those at Goodwood, but they were not fitted on the fatal day.

Chris Amon's #77 March 707 CanAm car at this month's Goodwood Festival of Speed. SPR Models has just received stock of Spark's 1:43rd resin model of this car, as Chris raced it during the 1970 CanAm season.

Thanks for that, hadn't read a word about it for well over 20 years. I'd certainly never seen guards on the car.
