I have just received some very interesting pics from Jim Barclay of our favourites from the 80s.
This is an early one of Graemes Charger at Pukekohe 1979.
The background cars make for interesting examination also- cant see many rice burners.
Will post some more this afternoon.
    Just noticed- no rear spoiler

Manfield 1983- dont have any details on what caused this, maybe left front tyre took an early retyrement.
Also rear spoiler is now fitted.
Wow, this is 4 years later...................

This is from the Manfield International January 83. The report in NZMN reads:

McElrea had blown a radiator hose and was dropping down through the field. Addis came up to pass the Cortina through the Esses and the two cars touched, pieces of fibreglass flying everywhere. McElrea retired at the Hairpin with his right rear tyre punctured, while Addis's previously immaculate Charger, now with tyre marks down the side, completed another lap before retiring.

Bryan, I wonder if it is a age thing as when young we have selective hearing (experiencing this with grandson) and as we reach the other end of scale we only listen to what really interests us as well.

Hey Guys, Just want to say its been great to run my XF Falcon (Fairmont) with the HSS Class, bit of a dream to be sharing a grid with the likes of the Addis Charger, Sidchrome Mustang, Algie monaro, alfetta, Custaxi.. ect...ect... Thanks to John for making me feel so welcome and doing a great job of co-ordinating the class... I hope I didn't scare anybody with the flame thrower at the NZFMR.... settled it down now, was much better at Legends, Cheers Nathan.Name: 1545999_663585693679557_361246934_n.jpg

REALLY????? Look in the background, think the yellow car might have enough rear spoiler for the whole field!

Thats right John, no rear spoiler in its earlier guise. Made the car very hard to drive, and the lack of rear downforce made the back end break away too easily. These cars were real science projects.

Seeing as that yellow car in the background is PDL2, that would date this as either the 77/8 or 78/9 season.
