Thread: Austin-Healey’s and the Austin Healey Car Club of NZ and Others

  1. #601
The Aussies who went were greeted at the Watkins Glen meeting by the late Mike Argetsinger.

Mike addressed them with a nice speech at the International Motor Racing Research Centre, focussing on the sportsmanship and camaraderie involved in this International 'challenge'.

C Conway is Charlie Conway - now well and truly retired and living in Selwyn Village
    - I remember " Chequered Flag Motors " his yard - along the road from the Fava Brothers " Sports car World " in Greenlane .. Bought and sold my GT6 through Fava's - but used to visit Charlie's yard for a look often..

What would that coupe be in the pic below the Ford?

Apart from a handful, that is...

  10. #610
These are the three cars in that class. It's not the Ford so it has to be one of the others.

My first guess would be the De Soto...

But on checking some pictures I've googled it looks like it's the Dodge. A '38 model.

I wonder what V8 it had squeezed in there?

  12. #612
We can be sure it's not the Lumsden De Soto as that was a later model. So by process of elimination, it should be T Boyle?

is that an A90,or 95, or 105 Kev? Is it you?

  15. #615
Out of curiosity, what model was the De Soto?

    And yes, the A90/6 is a bit of a mystery, definitely over 2500cc at 2639, A sedan-bodied 100/6!

Finned sedan, with twin rear wheel seen in early 60s sedan racing in NZ

Milan Thanks for the details, Kevin had an A90 hence his interest.
The collection you have is amazing and I often " borrow " your Austin Healey related and other information

I've found some pics of the crazy De Soto in the 'My Early Years' thread. What an amazing device!

Not only in its modified form, it's a very, very rare De Soto Diplomat from Canadian production for 'Colonial' use, merging a De Soto grille with a largely Dodge headlight line and fins from a Plymouth.
