Sorry I omitted the year...I believe it was the October 1956 Levin meeting.
I do not know the origin of the hardtop which looks pretty primitive but racing drivers ( and their passengers) were tough back then.
Can't imagine current "front of the grid" drivers driving to a national meeting in something as draughty and uncomfortable as a race winning 100s.

Ross, have some more photos of the car which I will post here.. soon .. knew from previous comments that you restored it [ properly ] !!
Would you be able to scan and send me copy of those papers, for my archive of car memories. I collected the car from Warkworth, but that could have been where it was stored .. can PM my Gmail address..

here is one pic .. a very " sad eyed " bugeye / frogeye !!

Monaco and Bobtail are different cars. That is a Bobtail (T39) central seat, Monaco is a true off set car, T57

Quite believe that, although never picked up the light disaster, found a almost complete car in a wreckers in Dominion Rd, AK, the bonnet on that was almost perfect so used that, the remains of that car went to Wellington on a "A " frame, brave man !!

I am sure that many years ago (30) there was an Austin Healey bug eye living in a sad state on the corner of Burbank and Rowendale in Manurewa. I tried to buy the car which had a bonnet conversion without headlamps and was running a Ford motor. The guy who owned said he was going to use it for dirt track racing. I have no idea what became o0f it.

The MG Midget in the background front chassis and complete rear was a donor for parts to assist in the rebuild of EC4802, that was onsold and completed by Max Fisher, then completely rebuilt to original by Ross Hollings.

The white bonnet with lights in the right place was a donor to make a mould of new front ends for Bugeyes.. mentioned before the cost was too expensive at around $500 each when the car was worth only $1000 or so in 1979, should have been done but not enough takers and not enough money to go it alone ..
