    Trans Tasman Challenge

A special series at Bathurst next week between Australia's Tans Am Masters cars and NZ Central Muscle Cars:

I don't know much about the specs for the Central Muscle Cars so can't really comment on who should come out on top.

I like the idea they want to limit speed down Conrod to 280 km/hr.

I kinda like the thought of an XD Falcon @ ~8600 rpm down Conrod...

I see that 26 CMC cars have been shipped over. This will be quite an event.

Hi Terry, the combination of CMC and TCM goes back to around 2009, when they did a race together at the Muscle Car Masters. Since then a group of TCM cars were shipped to Tony Quinn's new race track in Cromwell to run with CMC.

The CMC cars are much, much more heavily modified. They're allowed big engines, well over 400ci. Many run custom made NASCAR engines, producing up close to 900hp. They also have 17" diameter wheels, huge brakes, custom made front spoilers, carbon-fibre body panels etc. They should be a lot faster than the TCM cars, but the TCM teams are much more like proper professional race teams, and get their cars going very well.

The CMC cars with their advantages would have been quite a lot faster at Bathurst, where horsepower and good brakes are so important. But to bring them back they've been given the same rev limits as the TCM cars.

Yes Steve I was aware they met before. I saw them at that Muscle Car masters meeting. WHilst they had all the ingredients you mention I didn't think they had it all together as a complete package.

I think they will get a shock when they reach the mountain.

I think that this is a pretty neat send off to the Aussie V8s who soon will be 6 cylinder Supercars.
May the crowd really get their moneys worth from this Support Class

Dean Perkins is fastest of Kiwis @ eighth in first race with Midgeley two spots behind, from what I read the class is a favourite with the crowd. Seton won with fastest lap of 2.20.186 vs Perkins @ 2.21.833. Apparently their final practise session got cancelled due to time constraints in favour of the Toyota 86 class. Bit tough on all those racing at Bathurst for first time.

The problem with yesterdays mornings practice session was that thick fog blanketed the circuit. It was scheduled for 7:40 Am

The organisers were being greedy in trying to jam as much as possible. The Locals could have told them, if asked, that morning fog can be a problem at this time of year.

Todays race is at 1:05pm so fog won't be a problem. However it is supposed to shower this afternoon, so that would make it interesting.......

Sundays race is at 8:35am so any fog may have cleared by then

Terry S- thank you for this post, I was able to see the 3pm race.
Very clean considering a reverse grid.
Colin Meadows just ran away from everyone.
Tomorrow looks inviting as well, before the main race.

Meadows 1, Clarke 2, Ross 3, Dalton 4, Perkins 5, ----, ----, Eden 8, Teki 9, Midgley 10. Eight Kiwis in first ten, not bad going, I read Perkins started from #40 to get up to 5th, tomorrows results will be interesting.

Try Goodwood. Just 15 races over two days with a lot of the time, no track action at all. Pedal cars at the start/finish line, unseen by 95% of the paying spectators, parades, tributes etc.

Monaco Historics, just as bad. Lots of wasted, precious, track time, so if they can manage it, organisers who put on a busy programme get my vote as a paying spectator, any time, even if it is a bit tight. From Silverstone to Hampton Downs, morning fog is not unknown.
