I don't know whether BRM had ever done this before or since but they had 5 cars entered at Mosport in 1971.
Jo Siffert # 14, Peter Gethin # 15 and Howden Ganley # 16 in BRM P 160s and George Eaton # 28 BRM P 153 and Helmut Marko also.

For all their entries it was not a successful race for the BRM Team as the best finisher was Jo Siffert in 9th position.

I'm sure there were other races in which BRM entered five cars...

I don't have the resources to check which ones.

I think this was the first F1 race that BRM had five cars entered even though they did not all make it through the first lap !
At the next race at Watkins Glen they had five cars entered for the last race of the 1971 F 1 season.
For the first few races of the 1972 F1 season BRM had five cars entered.

" The 1972 campaign was generally chaotic: having acquired major sponsorship, Louis Stanley originally planned to field up to six cars (three for established drivers, three for paying journeymen and young drivers) of varying designs including P153s, P160s and P180s and actually ran up to five for a mix of paying and paid drivers until it became obvious that it was completely overstretched and the team's sponsors insisted that the team should cut back to a more reasonable level and only three cars were run in 1973 for Beltoise, Lauda, and Regazzoni. "

Memories, there...

The way the tyres are pulling at their sidewalls, remember how they used to have screws in the rims to retain the tyres on their beads?

the bolts in the rims were to keep the tyre in place after a puncture. they did not screw into the tyre but inboard of the bead. you must remember these tyres ran at 16psi hot, a lot less than the modern radials

I don't think they were specifically for punctures...

They were certainly there in F1 cars and yes, inboard of the beads.

Graham Hill struggled once again in the Brabham BT 34 # 37 which was to be the last F1 car that Ron Tauranac designed for Brabham.
This was a difficult time for the team with ownership changes etc and the "Lobster Claw" design was not competitive.

March Engineering had their March 711 cars designed by Frank Costin of Cosworth motor fame, there for Ronnie Peterson, Nann Galli and Ike Beuttler. This car had the "Spitfire" or " Tea Tray" front wing arrangement.

(One thing for sure is that all the 1971 F1 cars had their own individual designs and easily seen numbers, not like todays cars that seem to all look the same except for the colour of their paint ! )

Ronnie is in car # 17 and drove a fine race to come home second in his race.

Now check out some of the 1971 F 1 cars before wind tunnels etc..( just a few laps at Goodwood and some duct tape ! )












They were certainly different and easy to follow out on the track. (At least for this old "codger ")

But did you have to point out Ronnie's poor landing?

John Surtees reckoned you had to get the back wheels down first so you could get the power on...

All the same, your point is well-proven. Later we had some significantly unique-looking cars like the Ferraris of '75-'78, the Wolfs, the FW08 and a couple of others. But today there's just nothing in it.

This, by the way, might enhance your point, Ken... a bit more like primer...

Ken Tyrrell and his Elf Team Tyrrell led the way once again at Mosport in the 1971 Canadian Grand Prix.
Jackie Stewart was the quickest qualifier in Tyrrell 003 # 11 and would go on to win the Grand Prix.

Sadly for me at least, the Jerry Melton racing photos are about to come to an end.
In June, 1975, Jerry went once again to Mosport Park in Canada for a combined meet for IMSA GT and Formula 5000 racing.

One of the cars was prepared and driven by the popular Warren Agor who decided that the DeKon Chevy Monza was a bit expensive at
$ 38,000 US at that time so he built his own Monza to race known as the Agor Monza or (AM1).

Although it qualified 18th and finished in 10th it was still a thrilling car to watch.

Brian Redman in his 1975 BMW CSL 3.0 # 25 had engine problems in qualifying and even though he started on the front row he knew he probably not finish the race and he didn't but knowing Brian he probably had fun while it lasted.
