Wellington Car Club achieves now digitised

The Wellington Car Club has a huge archive of old racing club books, Heatway rally and photos.
They have been very fortunate to have it all put on to digital records to read, and man there is a lot of reading. Approximately 70 years of achieves!

    http://www.carclub.co.nz/default.aspx?Page=118

There is much on Sprints & hillclimbs such as Alexandra road, Houghton Bay and Palmer head.

I spotted a article on Bruce McLaren also giving a commentary on Monaco.

    Happy reading

    For Sure Roger,
They are big files and years of club magazines from circa 1948 up.
The Heatway Rally books are really interesting.
    Old gold!
    Enjoy

Is anyone going to do Auckland Car Club and Northern Sports car Club?

I'm still trying to sort dates and find entry details of Pukekohe loop circuit events from 1983!

Great reading here..Found Team Cambridge Monaro racing at Port Road Drags date was 1st March 1970..can amend the file on the car on this and others.
Colin Lanes dragster was 9.62, Rick Rimmer in Team Cambridge Monaro 10.07....very close.
Fleetwood Mustang was there and did 11.95
Should also help Paul B and his childhood dates of seeing certain cars.............

RE ; NSCC .. I know they [ NSCC ] have most of the Club Torque Magazines at the Club, but according to Trevor Sheffield, they need to be sorted and scanned. Unsure of other stuff though Video, Cinefilm etc..
The McLaren Trust have a lot of stuff too !!

Just this morning I was going through my collection of Auto News Mags and came across this report on the drags and the Gold Star Houghton Bay Hillclimb that was won by Grady in the Monaro.

D.Bull who came third was in the ex ivan Segedin, Red Dawson Mustang.
As well as Gold Star win, Grady won the Duncan McKenzie memorial Trophy for Hillclimbs here.
Our friend the late David McKinney was a contributing writer in these Wellington Car Club publications....no computer, no spellcheck.etc

I believe the Wgtn Car club managed to secure some funding for there archive project and outsourced it to a professional company.
Its is gold and a very important part of our NZ racing heritage.

Paul B, Yes in the notes on the link, they got funding .. would be nice to think that Lotto, or some Government Agency,Historic trust or so on could help clubs do this - an important part of New Zealand Motoring History .. the McLaren trust do a great job .. I know BMC BOY is helping them from time to time.

John Mck .. Are those pics in the link, or on the club photo's file ?? Houghton Road Hill Climb !!
I may be able to download and send to you -need a bit of time.
I am already behind with the Jim Bennett Furi stuff,
some Cunningham Cadillacs stuff for a guy in the UK,
and my own stuff - retirement is so " tiring " !! .. so much to do so little time ..

    Roger
    http://www.carclub.co.nz/assets/archives/1970.pdf June, page 15.Pix 1 and 5.

I have the time, had the feeling these pix were out there. Starting to get some depth to the file now.

Done it Roger, however while OK at A4, goes grainy the bigger you go...
Satisfaction from having the pix, no real detail though

Interestingly I picked 1970, but didn't look at the June pdf.

    Glad you have done it

    Cheers John McK..

I have it on good authority that the Wellington project has inspired TACCOC to start digitising 'Bespoke' and race programmes. Yippee! can't wait to fill in more of those frustrating gaps in my photographs.

Just checked. So far, my 'British Road Cars' digitised pics (includes slides, negatives and later digital images) is running at 12,000 images, Non-British Road cars - 10,000.
