    1974 MG BGT classic race car for sale

    Registered brand new in New Zealand on 5th April 1974. Rego is on hold ( still has original black number plates ), speedo reads 141,xxxkm now.

    Lynn Rogers 1950cc race engine, 12:1cr, steel crank, Carillo steel rods, Proturn forged pistons, tubular steel pushrods, Titan 1.6 ratio alloy roller rockers, 1.69 inlet valves, 1.42 exhaust valves, factory big bore exhaust manifold ( HPC coated ), brand new Weber 48 DCO SP carburettor. Scatter pattern race camshaft ( basically to Kent 719 SP spec ), steel sprocket flywheel, Crane electronic ignition, Autometer rev limiter. Fully balanced. Deepened and baffled sump.

    Clutch is standard MGB cover with Lotus Twincam sprung centre, and a 4 puk friction plate with ceramic lining on one side and Kevlar on the other. Built by John Arkley at 0800 RACEBRAKES ( he also does clutches ).

    Standard MGB 4 synchromesh gearbox casing. Fully rebuilt by Garth Bagnall ( MG Shop ) with new bearings throughout, close ratio gearset, relined overdrive clutch and V8 overdrive springs.

    Banjo diff casing with Quaife ATB LSD in an alloy head with 4.1 ratio crown wheel and pinion. 2767 heat-treated steel axles.

    Front brakes are ventilated discs with Austin Princess 4 piston calipers ( freshly rebuilt with new seals ) with Mintex 1166 pads, rear brakes are standard drums with Ferodo VG95 linings. Wilwood master cylinder in standard unmodified pedal-box.

    Front suspension is Paul Walbran Bilstein telescopic setup. Adjustable for camber with shims ( supplied ). 550 lb springs, double front sway bars. Rebuilt steering rack ( PG Hydraulics ).

    Rear suspension is stock left springs, rebuilt stock shocks, and lowering blocks.

    15" x 6" Cheviot minilite - style alloy wheels with brand new Nitto NT-01 205/50R15 semi-slick race tyres.

    Full welded-in rollcage by Ron McMillan at Road, Race, & Rally. Attaches to the body in 13 places, has harness bar and side intrusion bars. MotorSport NZ Homologated and log-booked. Painted in Bracken to match the car, and all interior trim refitted around the cage ( no cut dash or cut trims etc ). 2019 dated 5 point FIA camlock harness, quick release Momo steering wheel. Overdrive switch on the steering wheel.

    New radiator, Davies Craig electric water pump, Davies Craig electric fan, Smiths oil temperature gauge, low oil pressure warning light. Brand new 105 amp alternator. Baffled petrol tank. One piece aluminium plate tappet side cover ( doesn't leak! ). All front suspension / front crossmember / heater box / radiator support panel / brake / clutch pedal box were sandblasted and painted in black 2 pack. Engine bay and underside of the bonnet was stripped back to bare steel and painted in Bracken 2 pack ( photos available ). Some left over paint to go with the car.

    Car runs full interior and exterior trim, all lights work, heater fan ( demister ) works ( hot water not currently connected to engine but could be easily if you wish ). 3 magnetic roundels ( actually square ) for race numbers, so you can take them off / change numbers easily without wrecking the paint. Car is fitted with STR189 Special Tuning fibreglass front valance.

    Suitable for AES Tradezone classic race series, Regularity Trials, Pre'65, Targa, hillclimbs etc. The car is also suitable and acceptable for the new Historic Sports and GT's class which is run in conjunction with the HMC and HSC classes. Easy car to work on and maintain ( no harder than a standard road-going MG B ), all modifications have been done in such a way that they can be simply unbolted and standard items bolted straight back on. Nothing has been done as a "one way trip". Could be driven on the road in its' current spec if you get a LVV Certificate.

    Original front springs / lever arm shocks, steel front valance, and 3.9, 4.3, 4.55, and 4.875 diffs, some competition head-gaskets, diff head and axle flange gaskets, oil filters, other miscellaneous gaskets,
