This was apparently one of the seven Rootes works rally cars. When its rallying duties ended it became a Modsports circuit racer, as pictured, driven by Malcolm Sears. Sadly it was later crashed and wrecked.

The engine was a tight fit and Sunbeam had to provide inspection holes in the footwells to allow access to the rearmost spark plugs. Only 7,083 cars were built and today they are much sought after. The other big team in BSCC Escort racing was Broadspeed. This is the Escort 1300GT of John Fitzpatrick which retired with throttle slide issues.Name: img05042019_081 (Small).JPG
