Gotcha Rod.......but I was just looking at the car and thinking.....headlamps??? We are all required to have working head and tail lamps now in case of inclement conditions. What happens to this machine? Probably could fit a couple of spots in the grill.

Looks like its taken at Teretonga, SFOS meet, hard to make out who the driver is as the screen is a bit Foggy, driver must have been sweating a bit, apparently the original driver always emerged from the car with a bad case of hayfever, Donn Anderson of Motorman experienced the same sensation after he tested the 'Original' car at its Teretonga appearance way back in the 1960's. I think the car is now owned by a guy from Wanganui, or should that be Whanganui!

I ran Roberts name past him, along with a few others that I remember from that area, did not ring any bells with him...

  12. #192
There are a few from down that way. When you mentioned Ram, Taylor ran through mind but think he is in New Plymouth

    Re the Custaxie :

Look at 1967 photos and it didn't have headlights then. Nor any tail or indicator lights either. Interior shot in the Shell 1967 Motor Racing book show no evidence of any switches at all! Did it start by twisting 2 wires together?

Question: does the original bonnet top look flatter than re-creation?

as you sat in the old custaxie, the main switch was down on the floor on your left. the main switch was a big kill switch . you could take the top part of the switch off the main part that was on the floor. all that was needed to start it was next to the main switch.

Well....we know where the Lycoming is...
The engine from the TEC MEC ended up in Rod Coppins Zephyr I think..
As for Fentons Connaught ..Eoin Young wrote a good article http://www.classiccar.co.nz/articles...ght-connection..
Frank Shuter was a DNA but the Ferrari 625 was totaled at Wigram 1961 after hitting the timekeepers Standard !4..
Len Gilberts 250F is in Southward’s Car Museum, Prescotts Piccolo 250F may have ended up with Cameron Millar.
I'll now stand by and wait for David to correct me

David, just to let you know that Grant Clearwater is now a resident up in Keriekri in the Bay Of Islands much to us Motorsport enthusiast's living up this way pleasure. He sure has some beautiful machinery and he is restoring a couple of cars inbetween servicing and looking after a local in rallies.
I mentioned the site to him at a rally, but will remind him as no doubt he has an untapped treasure trove of information inbetween the very historic cars he has and his achievements and travels.
