Smile Ford Sierra NZ B&H race

I am trying to establish if anyone on the forum can find a decent picture of the Blue/Sierra raced at Pukekhoe by David Oxton and myself in a B&H race the exact year I don't recall. I really need at least one to add to my collection of raced cars. KB.

Nigel is a member on here KB, you should be able to send him a personal message but I'll put you in touch with him if he doesn't contact you first. I'm sure those photos are posted on here somewhere, this is another of Nigels:

    Kevin,
I'd be delighted to send you copies of the shots I've got.
I think I have shots of both you & David driving - one full face helmet & one open face.
If you send me a private message with your email address I'll dig out what I've got & send them to you
    Cheers
    Nigel

In the pits at Puke by the look of things. This car seems to have disappeared, I have been trying to locate it for some time now!

Do you remember what it was like to drive Kevin? Good, bad or ugly?!!

From what I recall it was a reasonably good jigger, I think it DNF'ed but whilst it was mobile it was a performer. Maybe David can remember more detail. It was a few years back and a one off drive for me.

I don't think that car reached the finish line on too many occasions during its Australasian races. Interesting that it won the 1985 BTCC quite comfortably, but I think the competition was weaker that year in the BTCC.

It went alright and so did you Kevin, you lapped me comfortably before it gave up. It was a while back when you think of it.

Conrad, at what point does the trail go dead? Is it after Bathurst 1986?

    Hi Kevin,

Here is another for your collection, not raced but driven in practice at the Calder round in 87.
It was a bit iffy wether Bowkett was going to make it so Ross Stone had you drive in practice.

It was the first time I had heard a driver rattle off all of the temps after the session. Quite an eye opener for some young blokes at the time, to work with a pro.

    Regards,
    Marty

Really cool photo Marty! Was this the WTCC round at the Thunderdome?

I can't really remember, it was either the ATCC round or the very first race using the Thunderdome and the race track, pre Bathurst.
We didn't do the WTCC round as the cars went back to NZ after Bathurst to be preped for their final races.

Cheers Marty, Nearly forgot about that one, great pleasure to work with the Stone's, I'm sure all would agree.

Thanks Marty, I only made an assumption based on the car seems to be heading left on the main straight, which would have taken it onto the thunderdome section. And the fact both Bowkett and Baigents names are on the windscreen, made me think it must be an endurance race. But that event was after Bathurst, not before it, so maybe it wasn't this event.

You may be right Steve. There were 2 enduros using the Thunderdome, we lead for one lap before the engine went on the banking.
Larry and Bill Obrien led for most of the race and were passed at the very end by Fury { and I think Shiels or Bowe} in the Aussie skyline.

Ahhh, that makes sense Marty, thanks for that. Calder was used for the opening round of the '87 ATCC, but didn't use the Thunderdome. The WTCC race was held the week after Bathurst on Oct 11, and was won by Soper/Dieudonne in the Texaco Eggenberger RS500. But there was a another race held that year on Aug 9 using (I think) the Thunderdome, which must be the one from your photo?

I 'borrowed' this table from another website simply because of it's relevance to the discussion; Hope you don't mind!
