Just a quiet area for the Japanese contingent! When you look at all the marques from the other countries that have faded into history, you realise just how vast the choice was for car buyers decades ago. So many makes and models and most with an obvious identity.

ERC, looks like the MX5 group had a good selection of cars.
    Thanks for the photos.

    Bugattis

I believe a recreation, so is it a Bugatti? if it has Bugatti power and running gear, then I can't see it being called anything else. However, Bugatti didn't put it together. What a debate that is...

If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck & quacks like a duck, them I'm happy to call it a duck. In other words, for me, not being a purist, it doesn't really matter.

This however, is definitely not a Jaguar!!

Yeuk! didn't realise anyone had brought one of those into NZ. I can't help thinking that I wish they hadn't...

With so many accurate recreations/replicas around - and not just 250F Maseratis, 250GTO Ferraris, Lancia Ferrari D50, BRM V16 and P25, Ferrari V6 sharknose, Bugattis, Lister Jaguars, C & D type Jaguars, AC Cobras, Lotus 11, Lamborghinis and loads more, I happily publish the disclaimer that if I call it by what I think it is, then that will just have to do.

    Agree totally Nigel.

Just following Nigel's story ERC, Like you have not seen the Jaguar version but have seen others with " British Style " grilles of other makes. Presume they all have a different sub model name too !! " MITSUOKA VIEWT " does not really seem like a Car name.

I'm not sure about the actual event here as it is the Donington Museum, also late 1973.

An NSCC member (that is Nottingham Sports Car Club, not Northern...) invited a couple of us for a look into his garage. Probably 1979.

Lotus, Allan - but I never have pinned down the model!

Will have to do a bit of ferreting through old sprint results, as I do have a pic of the car taken at Donington - but my results are incomplete. My guess is a Mk17.

1978 Donington Sprint. The same Lotus as above, but must have been a late entry or a substitute car and I can't find it in the results either. The queue for scrutineering. The track opened 1977 and this is before the paddock had a top coat.

Trying to locate this corner at Cadwell...

Is it the one shown here as a bit of a chicane-type bypass on the right?

I can't think of anywhere else on the circuit it might be, but if this is it there must have been some serious earthworks at some time.

Back then Ray, there was a hairpin, on the club circuit, just beyond the leading car and that new chicane.

For sprints and hillclimbs (I competed at both), the layout changed accordingly. I think the Vauxhall has exited that hairpin and is heading clockwise up the hill. I won my class in the sprint on the Saturday, when this was taken and I believe that was two laps of the club circuit, clockwise.

The Hillclimb(s), unfortunately, did not include Cadwell's famous 'mountain', and basically used the start line then swung across to that section on your pic, but going anti clockwise. I think I have a map of the track used for the Jubilee Hillclimb, where I won my class - again! I might fish that out and scan it, but currently busy scanning non-car pics from 1966.

    For you Ray Bell.

August 1973. Saturday Sprint, two laps of the club circuit. My 998cc Mini Cooper was basically standard, other than twin 1.5" SU carbs instead of 1.25".

Sunday 26th, a round of the BARC Hillclimb Championship. A win for me Saturday, but Sunday, (different entrants) thrashed by the then current record holder, Mike Flather, driving for Aldon Automotive - but I don't think his was a road car. He was something like 11 seconds faster - on a 1500 yard course. Go figure. I finished 3rd out of 6 starters.

Straight after, I headed to Bournemouth, on the south coast, for a few days, having just resigned from the UK Prison Service under strange circumstances - but that is a story for another day and involved Lord Snowdon and a TV documentary.
