Seen at Caffeine Classics today, this repowered MGB with a home built, wooden tonneau. Beautifully done too.

Ray, excuse my intrusion but you once again revived a memory for me of our slow, family drives in the Hyndman Standard Vanguard.
It was a 1951 Standard Vanguard Phase 1 saloon. With a 2 litre engine the same as a Ferguson tractor. 0 to 60 in a really quick 21.5 seconds !
Our car was black and on a hot day and dad smoking I was always car sick, especially on the gravel roads to Waihi Beach through the Karangahake Gorge.
Arriving at Felix St in Te Papapa, Auckland after the drive from Kiwitahi. The young chap has to be the centre of attention !
Driving on gravel roads is evident by the crud covering up those big shiny hub caps !

Across the road from my parent's house, lived the owners of the local fish and chip shop. (Real chips, from fresh potatoes, fried in lard... oh and the best haddock anywhere.) Their son had a Standard Vanguard and even after all these years, I can still remember the registration - MRR 656.
He held on to that for some years and when the Austin/Morris 1100 was released, traded it in. It was hilarious, as initially, he was all over the road, having graduated from the sloppy steering of the Vanguard to the very direct rack and pinion of the 1100.
