I agree and even better Ray lets me "steal { borrow } his photos especially of Austin Healey's

Now here is an oddball for you all a NADA Federal Spec Rover P6B 1972 model LHD with British Plates - now in NZ..

The owner says " This car was ordered from the rover factory and picked up at Solihull by Kansas customers. Toured Europe and shipped to New York in 1972. She is a genuine 1 previous owner car with 36000miles on the clock. I can confirm that the 1st owner was not an airline pilot but indeed a farmer. "

The new owner - an interesting story this, [ small world NZ ] His name is Edward Winchester and about 20 years ago [ 1997 ish ] his father bought an SD1 Rover - a rather special Twin Plenum Fuel Injected model a Walkinshaw modified version of the Vitesse from my Uncle Edward Dowding [ Ed Dowding passed away this year 2018 at 98 - as mentioned on the NSCC thread ] I think now Edward Winchester has the SD1 and there is also a Rover P4 in that family

Plenty more to come... In fact, I'm still sorting and filing from Goodwood. My methodology is to download from the cameras ASAP - even that takes time these days at a big meeting! Then from the laptop, where some initial work might be done when travelling, they are all backed up on a portable hard drive, before being copied to the PC. This retains most of the originals.

The next stage is to quickly try and dump the obvious failures (and at times, there are a fair few), then number all pics. Year, month, day, sequence. That isn't too onerous, until you discover later that you put 219, instead of 218 for the year for a batch of 150 or 200, meaning a fair bit of backtracking...

The next stage is to do a sort by a) Road going Brits b) Road going others c) race Brits d) race others e) sundry. This is an essential step to break down the numbers, otherwise smoke emanates from the hard disc as it struggles to cope with the sheer volume...

At the same time, every single pic may be cropped to eliminate too much background - often this is just to concentrate on the car even if it means cutting off the heads of some people! I crop fairly quickly but it still means going through every single pic. Sometimes there needs to be a bit of colour adjustment, or contrast adjustment.

On then to splitting by make to slim down the volume in each folder even more and in some cases, also by model. Where there are several examples of the same model (E type Jaguar or AC Cobra for example) split again by individual cars.

Then it is case of discarding those that are slightly out of focus or obvious duplicates. Only then is it possible to file them in a library, sometimes naming the files by make, plus the copy and shrink a selection for TRS and upload later.

Having been added to the library, the whole library has to be backed up to a portable hard drive on a regular basis - and needless to say, that takes longer and longer each six months.

This is inevitably a long drawn out process but when viewer(s) grizzle about a lack of captions they have no idea just how much work has already gone into getting them to TRS. That is also without backtracking and scanning 1,000's of slides and negatives which is even slower.

Thankfully, I know that several are regular watchers on here and pop in almost daily to see what has been added. As always, if anyone does have a query about any photograph posted, if I can answer it I will. So thanks for the thanks! Time is also spent supporting several Facebook pages, including Donington, Alta, ERA, BRM/ORMA, British Classics, Nottingham Sports Car Club.

    Ray,
Nick Swift seems to put on a great display of driving in his Mk1 Morris Cooper S at Goodwood every chance he can.

Thanks also for your description of putting in these photos as we all lap them up and just take it for granted so your explanation is well done and I only have a small understanding to what you do for us day after day. Just as I get back to work after my lunch break and I hear over my shoulder "Hyndman, what are you looking at ?"
(It's all your fault Ray but please don't stop !)

Derek Bell demonstrated the Eagle V12 on the Friday. Not sure why there was only one car on the track, when there were so many others that could have been out there. I know, I'm like an LP record with the needle stuck in a groove, but paying spectators need something to look at between races other than dead tarseal - and the same goes for races with small grids.

When even a 300mm lens is useful! Hispano Suiza in the GRRC members area, taken from the opposite side of the track, then cropped. With improved image sizes on newer cameras, what would be consigned to the bin, because the subject is too small, can be cropped and still give an acceptable image for the computer. Ditto when scanning slides. Many of those that were in the reject pile have been successfully scanned.

I was talking to Andy Culpin of RaceFX only yesterday. Not so long ago he was keen to build an A90 for competition but opted out, as there was no suitable class for it in NZ. We both feel that there needs to be two classes within the same grid for these old saloons, standard and period modified. The A90's at Goodwood were just so impressive, but standard they were not!

Goodwood partially overcomes the speed differential problem by having all races by time, rather than laps, so at least everyone gets a decent run.

I am fairly sure this car is still alive & running and was at Manfeild MG race meeting last weekend with Historic Sport sedans with John Mckechnie's group, It runs a mid mounted V8

Cripes, that is going back a bit! The car (Marina V8) was shown in its current guise on this thread, at Hampton Downs at least a year ago.

Graemes car did have a fire at Baypark, but..bacon and sausages were close at hand so not a bad.
Car is visually unchanged externally since first built, but I noticed a spelling mistake on Saturday.
AND...MG at Manfeild was ,once again an absolute brilliant meeting, if any one has any pix, please post here

Yes Ray, I dont know what happened, when I looked at your latest post, TRS placed me at where the Marina was, so I commented, thinking it was a latest. Then realised it was old, I tried to look at your latest post and TRS kicked me out. Anyway its all good car banter!
    Thanks for the pics!

Yup. TRS was playing up yesterday Paul, so not at all surprised! I had problems too.

John, please start another thread for Manfeild pics, as I don't think this is the right thread for other people's collections. An occasional pic from elsewhere is no big deal, but please, not a heap of them.

Shame - several cars ended up on a tow rope or the back of a truck. No accident this time, just an early car failure so I didn't manage several pics of this fine car.

My first and 3rd vehicles were Austin Minivans... The second was a hot 850cc Mini saloon that I sold to get married, hence down to Minivan 2. When the marriage failed, I bought back the hot Mini, before graduating to a 998cc Mini Cooper... Had Minis ever since.

Sean Dunaher's 1938 Maserati 6CM won again, (it won in 2016) driven by Calum Lockie, again, after a race long battle with Mark Gillies aboard the 1934 ERA R3A, owned by Dick Skipworth.
