Chris McAllister is really involved in the Historic Racing series across the US.

    http://www.historicgrandprix.com/Dri...acAllister.htm

Among his fine collection is the 1971 MBF # 5 that Denny Hulme drove in that years Can Am series.
Yours truly was taking a look at that machine and talking to Chris McAllister about a McLaren M21 that he had owned once.

I was looking through my 1974 programme for Riverside IROC race and noted this Porsche ad for the 914 and it mentioned Mosport.
Noting that the field contained Mark Donohue in his Penske 917/30 TC I knew that it was the first race of the 1973 Can Am Series on June 6 1973. The white Vasek Polak Porsche was driven that day by Jody Scheckter and then behind the "big boys" in this ad is # 51.

On looking closer it is Pete Sherman in the # 51 McLaren M8F in I think it's first race. This is the car now being driven by New Zealander, Roger Williams.

Here is another Mosport photo as Pete Sherman chases the Lola 163 of Dick Durant into Turn One.

A few weeks later at Watkins Glen the day did not finish as hoped for Pete Sherman in # 51 McLaren M8F. June 22. 1973.

That certainly is a fancy paint job that would be hard to duplicate.

This is the provisional field for the first 1973 Can Am race at Mosport.
    # 51 was driven by Pete Sherman. The entrant was Dave Causey.

Bit disappointed that the Rolex Reunion at Laguna Seca this year will not have Can Am, Formula One or F 5000 races.
Should still be a good weekend.

This class will bring back some memories. 1963-1973 FIA Manufacturers Championship.

Hi Ken, with the photo of the two Cortinas racing, are you able to tell me the caption at the bottom of the picture please?

I can't read it off the screen. May be my tired old eyes.....

    Terry,
I hope this makes it a bit clearer for you. The right picture states it is Brian Michelmore driving the Lotus Cortina in 1967.

That would be Brian Michelmore and Max Volkers at Lakeside.

Thanks Dale. I was pretty sure it was Michelmore, but wanted to clarify from Ken what the wording under the photo was.

A really great photo of a fantastic duo. I remember seeing them at Catalina and still some of best racing I've ever seen.
Only takes two close cars to make good racing. Remember Allen and Gibson in their Elans at Catalina.

This Roger Andriesse has me scratching my head. I have never ever heard of him, has anyone else?

Lotus Cortinas were sparse on the ground in 64-66 in Australia so surely would have been remembered.
Also in some places it is described as a '63 and in others as a '64.

He claims to have raced his Lotus Cortina in 1964 -66, yet he sold this car to Michelmore in early 1965.

This is a quote from him I found on a website:
" I raced my 1964 Lotus Cortina in Australia in 1964-1966 with a great lack of success, the two factory sponsored cars that the Goeghan (sic) brothers ran for Neptune Racing were so much faster. We all received our cars in the same shipment but within a few weeks both the Neptune cars had some very innovative modifications, still within the rules.....sort of"

I think this guy has a credibility issue.
