I took this photo at the 1969 BSCC Touring Car race held on the 16/08/1969. Number 86 is the Alan Mann Racing Ford Escort Twin Cam of Australian Frank Gardner. He finished second to the Falcon Sprint of Britain Dennis Leech. He is being overtaken by Bill Shaw's 1968 Camaro, driven by Roy Pierpoint, which was written off in a collision with a tree later in the race.

Bill Shaw's 1968 Camaro retired due to an accident, whilst the Camaro of Mike Kearon finished 25th of 26 finishers. Unfortunately the results I have only have race numbers for 4 cars so I'm not sure which one this is, although I suspect it is the Bill Shaw car.

In the Motoring News report of the race on that date, only one Camaro is mentioned. That was the car of Roy Pierpoint, which was running second between Leech and Gardner, when it crashed into a tree.

Thanks Milan. I guess that a car finishing in 25 out of 26 places would probably not be of much interest to a journalist. The results I consulted showed two Camaros, but without their race numbers. The Bill Shaw car (driven by Roy Pierpoint) is just shown as retired due to an "accident". I think my photo shows the Pierpoint car before the accident, probably about to overtake Gardener on the fast run down to knicker brook.

A friendly wave from Jochen Rindt after he finished second in the 1969 Oulton Park Gold Cup. The car is interesting, being a Lotus 63 Cosworth "experimental" with four wheel drive, a car described by Graham Hill as a "deathtrap". I guess Rindt was relieved to finish in one piece. The car was scrapped at the end of 1969.

[QUOTE=Chaswin;75204]Well known Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato (Reg: SBH209D) in the late 1960's heading down the Avenue at Oulton Park.
    That would be Tom Leake.

Ken is correct regarding the V16 BRM.

The 1968 Oulton Park International Gold Cup. The Reg Parnell (Racing) entered BRM 261 P101 V12 of Pedro Rodriguez, which finished the race in 4th place.

You need to post the BRM pics on the ORMA Facebook page.

    Charles,
Excuse for butting in with my Oulton Park experience.
September 1972 and I had just arrived from NZ. The first chance I got to go to a race meet was a F2 main event at Oulton Park.
I got up early and took the train I think to Tarporley and then walked to the track. I kept looking for a crowd and even at the track I
think there were more drivers and crew than there were spectators ! I wandered around the paddock area.Totally in awe of the drivers I had only read about in " Autosport" etc. There were no barriers and I enjoyed very much having a bit of a chat to some of the different crew members and I did not see much racing and I also found it a bit hard to see much of the track. (I had been .spoiled at Bay Park.)
All in all it was an unforgettable day but it seemed a shame there not many at Oulton Park that day to watch this fabulous field in action..)
I remember being impressed with driving of, Australian, Vern Schuppan before engine trouble forced his retirement.

(Check this 1972 Formula Two field.)

Hi Ken - an impressive driver lineup indeed. This must have been quite soon after Jody Scheckter joined McLaren. IRO Oulton Park - throughout the sixties there were always long lines of cars queuing to get into the circuit. Its quite a long circuit and there are several good viewing spots, but you have to know how to get to them. My favourite spot (from a photographic perspective) was on the exit from Old Hall corner. But I often parked the car on the back straight into knicker brook and captured the cars at speed. Having departed the UK in mid 1970 I can't comment on attendance at that time, but the circuit is still popular today it seems, as my nephew goes there quite often.

Another "what's this car". I've looked at various makes and I can't find it. Any suggestions? Taken in the rain at an Oulton Park historic car race in the late 1960's.

Fantastic Milan - a car I have absolutely no knowledge of, although I see it started life in 1958 as a Maserati 250F, until the company withdrew from racing for financial reasons. Only race was in the US GP, retired after 6 laps. It is now owned by Ian Nuttall Racing in the UK and seems to have had a few successes in historic car races, including Monaco and Goodwood. I have to say that it looks better without the roll-over hoop. Many thanks!

Milan is correct - as usual! For years, right from 1976, it was in the Donington Museum, but for the last 21 years, it has been a regular at the Monaco Historic's and Goodwood meetings. My own first first library pic is at Goodwood 2000. It goes well too!

Thanks ERC, that's a lovely shot of the Maserati engine. I see it's won the pre 1961 category at Monaco a couple of times. Just needed more development time.

The last 50 odd years have not been kind to this slide. However I thought it was worth posting because of the striking colour scheme. A Chevron B6 FVA at Oulton Park some time in the late 1960's, driven by Johnny Blades of Whitley Bay, who ran a tailor and gentlemen's outfitters in a number of sites around the North East, which would explain the sponsor. Sadly died in 2017. (Born 1939). ttps://www.oldracingcars.com/driver/Johnny_Blades,

In the 1960's and 1970's the Wynn's agents in South Africa were big sponsors in the local F1 series. These pictures were taken in 1970 and 1971 at Kyalami and show the two drivers in 3 different cars. The cars wearing number 12 (a complete Surtees TS5 and a damaged Lola 142-26) were driven by Spencer Schultze while the number 11 car (Surtees TS8) was driven by Willie Ferguson. Very colourful and comparable to the Gunston colours.
