Yes. He ran a bright green 1100cc 1955 model with 500-type wheels for a season or two, then bought the newer 1500 with F2-type wheels and bigger brakes. The bigger-engined car was pretty tatty by then, so he put all the good bits into his nicer car, and the inferior bits in the ex-McLaren etc car. They then went their separate ways...
The 1955 car has been in Australia for some time; last I hard of the other (the one in the picture), the remains were with Errol Norris
Sorry Dave I sold the car to Birne Hines and the car was destroyed in a fire 1966 Jamie A
Yes, I know![]()
This is rather intriguing. David McKinney says...'yes I know'.....wink, wink????????? And I have to say he USUALLY does know. Is there something here we all should know as well, or do I just mind my own business!!!! Is this the same Bernie Hines that races a Mini? [different spelling of 'Birne']
Yes Just my bum spelling that is the story as I was told and I have no reason to disbeleve???? Jamie
First point - I don't know
I heard the fate of the Cooper-Climax from Jamie himself (100 years ago)
Since then there were reports that Bill Tyson had the "remains" in 1967, which were passed on to Bill Clark then Errol Norris. The gear-knob?
Managed to perhaps get the Engine View a little clearer today
Well finally cracked the sports car photo today ,it was the first of the Gemco made bodies based on the Gemco sports car,and in the photo it is being fitted to the Grahame Harvey Elfin 400 for the start of the 1972 season,if I can sort another photo out good enough I will post it later
The Finished job out testing at Pukekohe
To Bob Homewood, Alan Dick asked me if I remembered the ex Bob Homewood Escort.Olds that a mutual friend once owned, Ross Cameron, Alan thought it went to Hawea near Wanaka.
Yes I have had someone in touch from down there and some photos sent up to me ,the only photos I have was in its Metro cranes TC guise ,around 1974 I did a real silly thing and threw out heaps of photos etc I had when I was moving ,back then I figured no one would ever be interested in any of that stuff,if only I knew all these years later that it was all part of history

I have been going through an acquaintance's old magazines, scanning things of interest, it is not surprising that many ex and still current driver's have no records in picture form of their early experience's, most say they were too busy trying to win.I have Mainly OSCA, F5000 an some sports car pics as neither Russ Noble or Murray Baker had much in the way of records. It started with me looking for info on the Swift that won Wigram in 1989 for Steve Donaldson who now has the car.
And there were a lot of negatives and history lost in the ODT fire many moons ago that A. Dick. had at the time
If Jamie a or anyone for that matter, is interested in viewing some proof shots that were taken 1968 / 1973 type era, there are aprx 18 sheets with up to 20 something picture on each. It would appear that they were taken in Teratonga,Timaru and Ruapuna. Probably easier if I send them in a PDF file so they can be enlarged after being received, many are of sports cars but there are saloon cars with some rally stuff as well. These were found at the Styx Rubbish transfer station in Ch Ch. Let me know how I can best get them viewed on line,it may be best to send them to individual Email addresses.
I would be keen, they might be of assistance to something I am working on at the moment, let me ,I had some sent a couple of weeks ago ,they just got emailed in proof sheet form and then I sorted them at this end ,no doubt someone with more experience than me will know the best way

Heres something that some one might remember ,early sixties there was in Auckland a Sunbeam Alpine that had been fitted with a MGA twin Cam engine ,in the time that I first worked on it I think it was owned and raced by a chap who was a chemist in white Swan Road ? Does anyone remember the car and who put the MG engine in it in the beginning
